Aiken's Webfoots Face Santa Barbara Gauchos At 2 On Hayward Field By DICK CRAMER King football is here again! This afternoon at 2:00, Jim Aiken will send his highly-touted Webfoots against the Gauchos of Santa Barbara College on Hayward Field. Kittle is known about tbe Gauchos, coached by Stan Williamson, a former all-american center from USC. William son will field a starting line that will average 200 pounds per man. The backfield will be light but boasts of plenty of speed anil good passing. The Gauchos worked out on Hayward Field yesterday after noon, shaking the kinks out of their legs after their trip to Eugene, and looked impressive. They followed a last session by the Webfoots before the game, both teams doing no contact work. Ducks Have Three Co-Captains 1 lie Ducks will be led into the game bj,’ three top linemen as captains. The three are End Dan Garza, who received all-coast honors last year and all-american in some pre-season forecasts. Tackle Don Stanton who has also garnered preseason all-amer ican notice, and Center Brand Ecklund, all-coast last year. According to pre-game ticket sales, today’s game will prob ably draw more spectators than any other opening game in Web foot history. By Friday afternoon most of the west grandstand was sold out and there had been numerous requests for general admission seats received by the Athletic Ticket office. A near capacity crowd of 12,000 is expected for the game. Procedure of Entrance For the benefit of both new and old students, Howard Lem ons, Athletic Business manager, announced the procedure for entrance into the game. Students who already have their Athletic Activity Books can use them for gaining admission through gates' 11, 12, or 13. Those who have not as yet picked up their activity books may go to the registrar’s office and pick up a certificate. This certificate will admit them through gate 10 only. Lemons announced that faculty members also will be ad mitted through gate 10 instead of gate 9, which is printed on the tickets. v Gauchos Primed for Game Head Duck-Coach Jim Aiken is making no drastic comment on the outcome of the game. Ilis reticence is partly due to the lack o! knowledge about the Gauchos, and also because it is the tirst game of the season. “I’ve been reading their school papers,” he said, “and it looks like they are pointing for us. Santa Barbara has everything to gain and nothing to lose by knocking us off, and will go all out to do just that.” Aiken said that today’s game reminded him of last season’s defeat by Nevada. “We didn’t expect that tough a game then and were overconfident. I hope we don’t have the same trouble today.” The Gaucho lineup will be an all-letterman affair, and they have 12 more lettermen to back up the 11 starters. Sailta Barbara uses a T-formation and will be captained by center Frank Kirk land and fullback Sam Dimas. lOrange Paint Job On 'O' Remedied Oregon’s landmark is once again its respectable lemon yellow self. Twelve Fiji pladges and their dates did the touch-up job Thurs day night as an impromptu climax to the evening, Broomsticks and five gallons of yellow paint were requisitioned by the group but the final test was made by the time honored tradition of sliding down the “O”!
