Jorgensen Goes Koute
Jorgensen went the route for the

Golfers Have
Bad Weekend
By KEN JOHNSON
Excuses seem to be in order for
the performances of the Oregon
golf team last weekend. The Web
foots received an 11% to 6% shel
lacking from the Portland Pilots
Friday and lost a close 15% to 11%
match to OSC in their Northern Di
vision finalee.
Playing without the services of
Lou Stafford and Rod Taylor who
were uhable to make the trip, the
Ducks tripped up on the Eastmore
land course in Portland and lost
three out of five matches. With
Stafford not playing, Tom Mar
lowe, Portland’s ace divoteer, was
practically assured a victory and
the absence of Rod Taylor hurt.
Marlowe defeated Dom Provost 3
to 0 by shooting a two-under-par
70, capturing medalist honors.
Beavers Spring Upset
But the truly unexpected came
when the underdog Beavers clipped
the Ducks’ tail feathers. Again the
Webfoo'ts were short-handed be
cause of an arm infection suffered
by Provost, regular second man.
Dead-to-the-pin approaches, or
dinarily accomplished with great
ease by the Oregon linksters, were
running long on the fast Corvallis

CORVALLIS, Ore., May 17.
Oregon pushed in three runs in
the first inning to defeat Ore

Fred Siri to win. Johnny Ko
venz opened with a hit, Walt
Kirsch walked, and Pat Woh
lers sacrificed to advance them.
Bartle Bats in Pair
Dick Bartle then singled to score
the first two runs. The final Ore
gon marker came in as Siri walked
the next three batters The Web
foots batted around in the initial
inning, with Don Bedford replac

Oregon State’s scoring came on
two walks, a single, and a sacri
fice off Whitey Lokan, the winning
pitcher.
Meet Friday
The two teams will renew their
rivalry next Friday night in Eu«
gene, when the Ducks and Beavers
clash at 8:15 at the civic stadium.
The final game of the Civil War

The win for Oregon still gives
them a slim chance of overtaking
the first place Washington State
team. The Cougars have only Ida
ho left on their schedule.
