Sunlight Serenade Performers _ _ mm mss «***■» '"'"T r~'"7 ***«.?■ ,V * Officially closing Junior Weekend this year will be the Sunlight Serenade, to be in the orchard behind the music school Sunday at 3 p.m. The queen and her court will attend the affair, which will feature the winners of the All Campus Sing. University Singers, directed by Donald K. Allton, will also sing two numbers. Mu Phi Epsilon and Phi Beta, music honoraries, will usher and serve punch and cookies to the guests. Other numbers on the pro gram are “Will You Remember?” sung by Harriette Stewart, soprano, ac companied by Georgene Shanklin, and a violin solo, “Schoen Rosemarin” by Ann Kafoury, who will be accompanied by Ann Hopper. Working on the serenade committee are Kit Wilhelm, chairman; Georgene Shanklin and Ed Peterson, program; Sue Judd, refreshments; and Sam McKinney, pro motion. Last year more than 500 people attended the event. It is free of charge. Fairytale Float Parade Today; Descendent of Old Canoe Fete 1 Theta Chi's busily build their contribution to Story Book Wonder land's realm of floats. Working in construction with the Alpha Gam ma Deltas, these fellows have chosen the tale of the tortoise and the hare as their float theme. By ANITA HOLMES Youngster of Junior Weekend is the float parade. Celebrat ing its fourth year, the parade will move this afternoon, unlike its predecessor, the canoe fete, which was always a night affair. In 1941, the famous fetes were replaced by an all-campus sing. Then, in 1945, the students decided that trucks could re place canoes, so the parade moved from the race to Willamette street. Each spring the decorations be came more elaborate until canoes were finally tied together into barges for full-sized floats. De velopment of the art school helped bring improved canoe fetes. These improvements made such beauties as Strauss waltz floats, Venetian gondolas, Guides of the Tide, Sea Rover, and the Phantom Fete in 1928. Satire in 1939 A satire on Hitler and Mussoli ni highlighted a burlesque fete in 1939. This one even included dunk ing contests. Oregon’s last parade on the race followed a mock procession called “Stars Fell on Ali Baba." The real Arabian Nights fete moved Saturday night, closing the weekend. Many Events Crowd Schedule Mothers' Weekend Opens Today Registration will head the agen da of activities for Oregon Mothers today. Booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Johnson hall and from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Gerlinger hall, Joanne Fryden lund, chairman of the Mother’s Weekend committee, announced. Announcement of the class hav ing the most mothers attending the Weekend will be made at the Junior Prom, Miss Frydenlund said. Entertainment Set Special entertainment has been scheduled for the Oregon Mother’s tea. to be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p. m. today in Alumni hall at Ger linger. It wrill be sponsored by AWS, YWCA, and the Eugene Mothers' club. Mothers will be able to see the Junior Weekend float parade which will pass Gerlinger hall. The balcony at McArthur court has been reserved for the mothers at the Junior Prom. Punch will be JOANNE FRYDENLUND served to the mothers in the west balcony by the Eugene Mothers’ club. Mothers are requested by Miss Frydenlund to take their tags with them to the Prom. The museum of natural history, the art museum, the library, and the infirmary will be open to the mothers this afternoon. The stu dent library collections will be on display at the library for them to see.. Mother’s Weekend schedule for today includes the annual business meeting of the Oregon Mothers at 9:30 a.m. at the Guild Theater in Johnson hall; the Mothers’ tea at 2 p.m. at Alumni hall in Gerlin ger; the Junior Weekend float parade at 4:30 p.m., and the Junior Prom at McArthur court at 9 p.m. Sunday’s schedule includes a meeting of Oregon Mothers state board of directors (including old and' new members of the board) at 9 a.m. at the Mirror room of the Eugene hotel, and the Sunlight Serenade in the music school open air auditorium from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. 'Storybook Wonderland' Schedule SATURDAY 9 a.m.—Painting of the “O”, polishing the trophies and Oregon seal, freshman-sophomore tug of war. 9:30 a.m.—Annual business meeting of the Oregon Mothers, Guild theater, Johnson hall. 12:15. p.m.—All-campus picnic on the old campus, including tappings, queen’s processional. 2 to 4 p.m.—Tea for Oregon Mothers, sponsored by the Associated Women Students, Young Women’s Christian association, and Eugene Mothers’ club in Alumni hall, Gerlinger. 4 p.m.—Start of float parade at the railroad depot. 4:30 p.m.—Float parade arrives at the campus. 9 p.m.—Junior Prom at McArthur court (Balcony lounge reserved for mothers).
