OreganaJCrew Plans Banquet More than 60 guests have ac cepted invitations to the annual Oregana banquet which will be held tonight at 6:30 in the Persian room of the Eugene hotel. Six of the 1048 Oreganas will be exhibited at the banquet, according to Larry Davidson, chairman. He said the Oregana plaque and 27 certificates will be awarded at the banquet. Ross Yates, editor of the 1048 yearbook; Trudi Chernis, editor for next year; Olga Yevticli, business manager both years; and Dick Wil liams, educational activities mana ger, will give short speeches. “ Several musical numbers are also included on the program, Laura Ol son, program chairman, said Tues day. INK’S BARBER SHOP Movies Flaunt Lucrative Titles “The World Is Rich” and “Chi na’s Forty Million” will be shown tonight in 207 Chapman, first showing beginning at 7 p.m. An account of the war before 1939, “China's ' Forty Million” shows the resistance of the Chinese people to the Japanese invasion,an their attempts to form a democ racy. One of the pictures in the docu mentary feature class, “The World Is Rich” discusses the world food program, and points out the rea sons for the world's lack of food in many areas. It places the blame on backward agricultural methods, waste, and maldistribution. Music, Speech Honorary Initiates Phi Beta, music and speech hon orary, held its spring term initia tion last week. Those initiated were Maryen Roberts and Betty Perry, music; and Emilierose Jackull and Mary Easter Brock, speech. Louise Cloustan and Grace Hoff man were also to have been initiat ed but were unable to attend as they were touring in the cast of “The Dover Road.” The initiation was held at Ger linger hall. Refreshments were served following the ceremony. Joan Abbett, president of the fra ternity, officiated in the ceremony. Today at 11 a.m. KUGN an nouncers will interview Mary Han delin and Donna Stageburg, prin cesses for the Weekend. Miss Mary Lou Hill, also a princess, will be interviewed sometime this after noon. Both KUGN and KOAC will carry on-the-spot broadcasts of the coronation ceremony Friday at 8 p.m. Governor John Hall will an nounce the Junior Weekend queen. Larner said this ceremony may be broadcast in Portland and on KOAC. However, it is not definite, he stressed. A rebroadcast of the all-campus sing is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. over KORE. From 9 to 9:30 the same evening, KOAC and KUGN wall feature Will Osborne and his orchestra direct from the Junior Prom in McArthur court. Co-op to Carry 'Opera' Tickets Tickets will go on sale Thursday for “The Beggar’s Opera” which will be presented by the music school May 12, 13, and 14. Members of Phi Beta, national music and speech honorary, will be in charge of the sale. Tickets will be general admission at 60 cents apiece. Phi Beta will be selling tickets in the Co-op May 6, 7, 10, 11, and 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The per formance, under the direction of Herman Gelliausen, associate pro fessor of voice, will begin at 8 p.m. Honorary Offers Gift Scholarships Freshman and sophomore wom en who wish to apply for Kwama scholarships are requested to turn their applicatoins in to Mrs. Golda P. Wickham’s office by Friday. Three full-year tuition scholarships are being offered by the sophomore honorary.
