Athletic Director Leo Harris announced that a new scoreboard has been purchased, and will be in stalled at McArthur court. The scoreboard, weighing 475 pounds, will be anchored by a steel cable, and will hang from the cen ter of the basketball floor. The score tabulator will have four faces, one visible to spectators on each side of the court. 12-Inch Numbers The lettering is twice as high as those used last year. The 12-inch numerals will be electrically oper ated from the scorer’s bench, based upon a push-button mechanism. In addition, above each face of the scoreboard will be a time clock. The scoreboard and clocks will be placed at an angle so they can be seen by both fans and players alike. Backboard Lights Harris also announced that red lights will be installed behind each backboard. When a period ends, a buzzer will sound, and the red lights will flash on simultaneously at the ends of the court. This will act as an aid to the officials in de ciding whether a shot was actually in the air when the period ended. The round numerals on the score board are formed by a series of raised red bulbs, clearly visible to onlookers. The scoreboard will also keep an account of the quarter be ing played. Harris said that a scoreboard similar to the new one is used in the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
