Sponsor Talks
At Conference
Flying from Portland to Eugene
on Friday to speak at the Univer
sity advertising conference will be
Frank Coffin, assistant director of
radio station KGW. Coffin and
Merle W. Manly, secretary-treas
urer of Botsford, Constantine, and
Gardner advertising agency, are
the opening speakers of the con
ference.
Manly is scheduled to speak on
ageneys at 1 p. m. Friday after
noon and Coffin will discuss the
radio field immediately following
Manly’s speech.
Speakers scheduled for Saturday
morning are J. B. Twiford of the
Portland Oregonian who will pre
sent the newspaper angle, and
Art Markewitz, vice-president of
Bushong’s, who will tell the stu
dents about the technical field
Sponsored by Alpha Delta Sigma
and Gamma Alpha Chi, national
men’s and women’s advertising
honoraries, respectivly, the con
ference will open at 1 p. m. Friday.
The concluding speakers frill pr
sent pictures of their field of work
at 9 a. m. Saturday. Each discus
sion will last two hours. All phases
of the four fields will be covered
by the four men.
All advertising majors and other
interested students are invited to
attend, Dr. R. D. Millican, pro
fessor of advertising, said yester
day.
Gamma Alpha Chi will serve
coffee at 3 p. m. Friday afternoon.
A banquet, honoring the speakers,
sponsored by Alpha Delta Sigma,
will be held Friday evening.
Rushees to Register
Girls planning to rush spring
term are requested to register at
the dean of women's office. Sorori
ties will begin rushing Monday,
April 19, and continue through May
19.
Demo Speaker
Walter Pearson, state senator
and candidate for nomination to
state treasurer is scheduled to
speak to Young Democrats to
night.
Stanford Cindermen Win
PALO ALTO, Calif., April 13—
(UP)—Stanford university’s track
team won its first dual meet of the
season and its first collegiate dual
track victory since the end of the
war by downing San Jose State 70
to 61.
Walter Pearson
Slated to Speak
Walter Pearson, state senator
from Multnomah county and can
didate for the democratic nomina
tion to state treasurer, will he
guest speaker at the Young Dem
ocrats’ meeting at 7:30 to night
Room 3, Fenton hall.
His topic will be “What the De
mocratic Party Can Do For Ore
gon.”
Pearson, a Portland business
man, is vigorously opposed to in
creased taxes. He fought against
the sales tax which went before
the people in a special election
last November, and introduced
bills in the 1945 and 1947 legis
lative sessions to place surplus tax
monies in the general fund where
they could be utilized.
Pearson, an Oregon alumnus,
states that he is also for greater
facilities for veterans and others
attending Oregon’s institutions of
higher learning.

Dean Summoned
By Father's Death
Mrs. Golda P. Wickham, dean
of women, was called to Cottage
Grove early yesterday by the
death of her father, Frank F.
Farker. Mr. Parker, who has been
ill for some time, made his home
in Cottage Grove and that area
for many years.
Funeral arrangements are being
made in Roseburg, where burial
will also take place. Survivors in
clude Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Wickham,
two other daughters, and one son.
Club to Elect Officers
Tonight officers of the One
World club will be elected at a
short business meeting in the
YMCA. It will begin at 8 p. m.,
preceded by an executive council
of the club meeting at 7:30 p. m.

Dean Vergil S. Fogdall to call at
his office at any time to fill out a
card as the first step to rushing.
