Phi Beta Honors Music Grads Phi Beta, music and drama hon orary, paid tribute to the graduat ing seniors with the traditional Candle Light ceremony in Gerlin ger hall, Thursday evening, April 8. The Candle Light formal tea is Sigma Xi's Tell Election Results Election of one active and 16 as sociate members to Sigma Xi, sci ence honorary, was announced yes 'terday by Dr. E. G. Ebbighausen. Initiation will take place May 15 ,£t a joint Sigma Xi-Phi Beta Kap pa banquet. Dr. Samuel N. Dicken, geology -and geography department head, was elected to active membership. Associate members are: Maryann T. Doyle, Barbara A. Fullmer, an thropology; Hjalmar Anderson, Jr., Ruth O. Mattus, Gloria S. Van. TBrocklin, biology; Cecil K. Clay comb, Harold M. Davidson, Myer G. Horowitz, Lin Tsai, Ross P. Wither, chemistry; Thelma M. Chaney, mathematics, Douglas J. sponsored each year by the Eugene I alumni of Phi Beta. A program was presented by the winter term pledge class in addition to the ceremony. Three members performed. They were Dorothy Gangneth, soprano, and Betty Per ry, panist, of the music school; and Emilierose Jackull of the drama Lectures Cancelled Because of Illness The lecture series on evolution by Franz Weidenreich, scheduled for April 20 and 21, have been can celed due to the illness of the speaker. No new date has been set for the lectures. Dr. Weidenreich was scheduled to speak as a part of the condon lecture series. Similar lectures were canceled last term due to the illness of Dr. Weidenreich. Donahue, Harriet E. Heimburger, Earl B. Neher, Jr., physics; Mary J. Sargent and Clifton C. Wilcox, psychology. The recipients of these awards were, Sylvia Killman, pianist, who was awarded the bracelet for outstand ing professional achievement of a senior, and Claire Lee Ogle, sopho more in music, who was awarded the scroll for outstanding service. Otter Rock Trip Planned by YM Gerald Harris, sophomore in languages, is the YMCA president for next year. Harris and his of ficers were elected at a meeting last week. Vide-president for the Oregon group is Norman Deibel; secretary, LaVerne Huff; and treasurer, Wil lis McCullough. The new officers will appoint a cabinet to plan next year’s pro gram. A retreat at Otter Rock on April 24 and 25 has been planned for all old and new cabinet mem bers. They will arrange the 1948 40 YMCA schedule at the retreat. Spanish Society To Initiate Soon Gamma chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, national Spanish honor society, voted in 20 members and one hon orary member at their annual spring election this week. Dr. D. M. Dougherty, head of the foreign language department, is the new honorary member. Students who passed the require ments for election were Vivian An derson, Jeanne Carlson, Mary Cour sey, Amelie Diamant, Marjorie Griffith, Betty Guerin, Mary Ierul li, Jo Anne Jarvis, Nan Humphrey, Clifford Johnson, Joan Mimnaugh, Sally Mueller, Anne Nelson, Guido Palandri, Barbara Sundet, Nancy Swem, Shirley Thurman, Beverly Viers, Kenneth Van Duyn, and Phyllis Williams. Minimum election requirements for this group are a GPA of 2.75 and a 3.00 in upper division Spanish courses. Initiation will be held at 4 p.m. May 9, in alumni hall. Infirmary Reports Eight Hospitalized Eight students were hospitalized in the infirmary yesterday. They were: Maryen Roberts, Margaret Rauch, Elbert Brock, Lee Heater, Harold Smith, Don Ausland, Len Boice, and Vance Beckwith. April 13—(UP) —University of California at Los Angeles announced the signing of a football game with University of Idaho to be played at Los Angeles coliseum October 2. The game completes a 10-gam© 1948 grid schedule for UCLA, an nounced Athletic Director Wilbur Johns. Included are eight Pacifia Coast conference games.
