Old Oregon Article To Feature Dentists Last Old Oregon of winter term will be in the mail next week. It' features a story on. the dental school by Bill'Wasrhann, associate editor of the alumni magazine. The March issue includes ar ticles on retired Oregon professors, Patrons and patronesses will in on improvements of the athletic plant written by Fred Taylor, co sports editor of the Emerald. Bert Moore, editor of Old Ore gon, said the magazine contains a book review by Dean George Turn bull of the journalism school. He reviewed “We Called It Culture” by Robert Ormond Case and his sister Victoria Case. They are both Oregon graduates. A cover sketch of the Oriental art museum is supplemented with a story of the building in the mag azine. A conference announcement said today’s scheduled meeting has been postponed until 10 a.m. (5 a.m. EST) tomorrow because representatives of Britain and France, on their way to Brussels with instriiptions from their governments, have been held up in the North sea area by heavy fog. The original proposals were submitted yesterday by the Ben elux (Belgium-Netherlands-Lux embourg) countries. It was re ported they called for a broad five-nation pact, including mili tary clauses, to halt the west ward march of’communism. WASHINGTON, Mar. 5—House Republicans teamed' up with south ern Democrates to eliminate an anti-racial-discrimination clause from a government money bill for fiscal 1949. The latest round in the civil rights battle was fought in the house appropriations committee, which pruned $30,119,379 from President Truman’s request for funds to run the labor department and federal security agency in the next fiscal year. SAN FRANCISCO, March 5— A five-pound, two-ounce boy to day became the first baby to be born on the busy San Francisco Oakland bay- bridge. The baby was born in an an cient automobile in which Mrs. Helen Bensen, 17, of Vallejo, had been riding on a hastry trip to the hospital. Highway patrol officers heard Mrs. Benson”s cries for help as the vehicle pulled up to the toll plaza. They provided an escort in an effort to get the woman to the hospital, but the baby was born during the dash across the bridge to St. Francis hospital. WASHINGTON, March 5—Sen Robert A. Taft, R., O., today came out against a proposal to set up a veto-less ‘‘supreme council” out side the United Nations to meet ag gression with armed force. Taft’s opposition, together with that of Senate President Arthur H. Vandenberg, appeared to doom the proposal. It was put forth by GOP “revisionists” as an amendment to the European recovery plan.
