Webfoots Earn Rest After Fray Following the two games with Washington State, Oregon Coach John Warren gave his basketball team a rest yesterday, but prepa rations will begin this afternoon for Saturday night’s Oregon State bat tle at McArthur court. A lot will probably be at state in the final Civil War titanic with the Aggies, in the last Northern Divi sion encounter for both teams. Washington, the only other quint in the loop with an outside chance of tying OSC, will have to defeat Idaho twice in Seattle. The Web foots must down the Oregon Stat ers to have the title race end in a two-way deadlock between the Beavers and Huskies. Fourth Place Another factor which the Ducks v.ill be shooting at Saturday night is to even their wins and losses in division play this season. For the second straight year, Oregon is des tined for a fourth place finish, be hind the Cougars from Washing ton State. A victory against the Aggies would put the Lemon-and Green’s record at eight wins and eight losses. Including preseason contests, Oregon now has a net of 17 wins and 10 setbacks to its credit. The Webfoot-Beaver clash will also be the final appearance in an Oregon cage uniform for seniors Dick Wil kins, A1 Popick, Stan Williamson, and Reedy Berg. Wiley Leads Roger Wiley leads the Duck scoring parade in ND competition with 197 points, and trails WSC's Vince Hanson, with 220, and Wash ington’s Jack Nichols who has 205. Wiley is also tea mhigh in field goals with 67, free throws with 63, and free throws missed with 40. Wilkins has the most personal fouls of the Webfoot cagers with 48. Wil liamson has the best gift toss aver age with 49 conversions of 73 at tempts. Mel Patton, the Trojans' world record-holding sprinter, will ac company the squad and appear in an exhibition but not in competi tion. “Patton is starting his training slowly in this Olympic year." Cromwell said, “and is not yet in competitive shape." Except for star shot put ter Bill Bayless, all the outstanding Trojan cindermen will make the trip. Splashers Get Awards As Swim Season Ends Major letters were awarded to eight varsity swimmers who com prised the nucleus of this year’s Duck squad this week, on the rec ommendation of Mentor Ray Kurei lis. Big “O” winners on this season’s third place Northern Division squad are; Earl Walters and Pete Hill, backstroke; Bill Vannatta, George Moorhead, A1 Dahlen, and Paul Thompson, free-style; Bill Amburn, breaststroke; and Willie McCul lough, diving. Top point-maker for the Web foots was team captain Earl Wal ters, who piled up a grand total of 47.2 points. Walters placed second in his event in the ND finals Sat urday night, and also captured the Oregon AAU backstroke title Sun day. Runner-up for scoring honors was state 100-yard free-style titlist Bill Vannatta with 36.5 counters. I Rounding out the “big three was George Moorhead, who also earned a state crown last weekend in the 220. The nine members of this year’s undefeated Frosh crew, boasting a four-win and no-loss record, who received numerals aree: Louis San tos, Tom Nekota, Warren Brauch er, Bud Brown, and Leon Camp bell, free-style; Stan Hargraves and Paul Dahlquist, backstroke; Art Bayly, breaststroke; and Jim Stan ley, diving. The foursome composed of Santos, Nekota, Stanley, and Hargraves, were never topped in regular competition in their respec tive events. The fourth game against the stubborn Rooks from Beaverland is on the books tills afternoon at 4, in the Men’s gym at Corvallis. The game was originally scheduled Friday night. The Yearlings face only three more contests to complete their 22-gr.me schedule. After the Baby Beaver tilt, the Ileldtmen play a game with Toledo high school here Saturday afternoon at 4 and engage the Klamath Falls Pelicans Saturday night in a preliminary before the Duck-Beaver varisty clash. The Frosh edged K-Falls 47-44 in a previous game. With a record of 15 wins and four losses, the Freshmen will be out for another victory today against Paul Valenti’s crew.
