    Third Duck-Vandal Clash at 8
Frosh Engage Vikings
Ducklings
Set for Vik
Tilt at 6:15
A slam-bang doubleheader is in
store for Duck basketball fans to
i ight in McArthur court, and in
the preliminary contest, a green
•shinted crew of Freshman basket
tiald artists, in quest of their sev
enth victory in ten starts, will
square off with the talented Salem
high Vikings at 0:15.
The Viks, almost a cinch for
the Big Six league championship,
Pave been tabbed by Frosh Coach
Carl Heldt as the toughest team
the Ducklings have met this sea
son, and have already dealt out
a 48-33 defeat to the Oregons.
Coach Harold Hank's Capitol
City preppers are fresh from a
fh-38 win over Albany.
Same Starters
Heldt ran his cagers through a
50-minute workout yesterday af
ternoon, stressing foul shooting
and offensive set-ups. He said he
would stick to the usual starting
quint of Bob Taggesell at center,
Will Urban and Ernie Wilde at
forwards, and Don Peterson and
Jack Keller at the guards.
This combination has shown'
potent scoring punch in games thus
far, ami is a tight defensive unit,
with Urban and Taggesell control
ling the boards.
Best in League
Hank’s Vikings, definitely the
class of Big Six squad's, will be out
for another win tonight, and have
.proven they are hard-to beat. Car
los Houck, Waldo Unruh, Jack
Miller, ami Keith Farnum have
been hitting the hemp with con
sistency for the Salemites, and
will bear watching. Houck hit for
18 points in the Albany game.
Yearling reserves are likely to
see plenty of action this weekend,
since two more games remain af
ter tonight's Salem tilt. A con
test with the Ashland Grizzlies is
eel for 2 p. m. Saturday, and a
game with tire Oregon City Pin
.veers follows at 6:15.

notch up their third win in a row
in the Dad’s Day attraction. Their!

John Warren’s Oregons
Face Idaho in Mac Court;
Cooper Surprise Starter
By DON FAIR
Following seven consecutive road games, Oregon's basketball
team returns to McArthur court tonight against the Idaho
Vandals, tip-off time 8 p. m. A preliminary contest between the
Frosh and Salem start at 6:15.
Webfoot coach John Warren announced that Stan William
son would open for die Lemon-and-Green in tonight’s contest,
as the injured limb had responded to heat treatments. X-ravs
showed that Williamson had sui
fered no fracture, and with the
swelling down, he was able to par
ticipate in yesterday’s short work
out.
Chuck Finley’s Vandal team will
arrive in Eugene this morning.
This evening’s contest is the first
of a four-game road swing for the
percentage points. The Vandals
have won two and lost five, again
st the Ducks’ record of three vic
tories in nine games.
Cooper to Start
Surprise starter for Oregon will
be 6 foot-3 inch Paul Cooper at
forward. The sophomore transfer

Moscow squad, as they meet the
Webfoots again tomorrow night,
and then play Oregon State at Cor
vallis, Monday and Tuesday.
Phoenix-less Vandals Tough
Despite the loss of 6 foot-8 inch
Jack Phoenix, through scholastic
difficulties, the Vandal quint has
been tough to handle in their last
three starts. They measured' the
Ducks 55-52 Saturday night, and
this week they bowed to league
leaaing Washington State 38-35,
after a bitter struggle.
Boasting a pair of hot-shot point
makers in Dexter Linck and Pres
ton Brimhall, Idaho, although in
last place, trails Oregon by mere
from Sacramento J. C. gained the
nod, following the' three scrim
mages this week. Cooper is a
cagey customer under the back
boards, and is an excellent feeder.
His point-scoring ability is strictly
of the clutch variety, as evidenced
by his showing against Oregon^
State.
Dick Wilkins, aiming at a new
Northern Division scoring record,
draws the other forward position.
Rebound-hound and highest scorer
on the team, Roger Wiley will, for
the 22nd time this season, open
at center.
At the guards, Stan Williamson
