Dicken, head of the department of geology and geo graphy, will speak on the topo graphical features of “caves and( karst’’ Tuesday at 8 p. m. This J lecture will be presented to the j members of Sigma Xi, national j science honorary, in Room 103 Deady hall. Dr. Dicken will tell of his ex periences in geological surveys of cave and karst areas and of his work with the American O.S.S.' during the war. Dr. Dicken will discuss the evolution of karst ment of limestone formations. He, (roofless caves) and the develop-j made an intensive study of this j subject while on a Kentucky geo logical survey in 1937 and while serving with the O. S. S. during the war. It was whe nDr. Dicken was af fiiated' with the O.S.S., he pre pared a detailed report of cave formations in Germany. It was thought at that time that fanatic bands of the German army and SS men would use these cave areas as fortresses from which to con tinue resistance against American troops. Members of Sigma Xi have scheduled a closed meeting at 7:30 p. m. preceeding Dr. Dicken’s speech to the honorary and to the general public.
