Montgo mery of the speech and drama de partment. According to Montgo mery, the local entrants must have copies of their orations turned in to him by February 2. The peace contest, sponsored an nually by the National Peace as sociation, is open to any shcool nroviding a local elimination con test with three or more entrants. The topic this year is “Pea"e Through World Government." The orations must be limited to ten minutes or 1400 words. The choice of specific subject material is left to the discreation of the orator. Rex Gunn, junior in English, won the state contest last year, and hir oration was placed second in na tional competition. This year the state contest is set for February 19 at Pacific university, Forest Grove. Spanish Club Sees Hat Dance Routine At a meeting of the Spanish club on January 22, Miss Margaret Mo ran, girls’ physical education in structor, and Miss Cassie Hyde, junior in foreign language, gave a demonstration to the club mem bers of the Mexican hat dance, "Ja rabe Tapatio.” After the demonstration the members were instructed how to do the dance, and in the next meet ing planned for February 5, Thurs day, at 7 p.m. in the sunporch of Gerlinger hall, more details and further instruction of the dance will be given. All students interested in Span ish are invited to attend the meet ings. The number of college students this year is estimated at nearly 2,250,000, 60 per cent more than in 1940 and four times as many as in 1920. The group is meeting at the Y at 3:50 and then going to the home of Mrs. Paul Ellis, 1442 East Thir teenth. The religious discussion group is open to all women stu dents. It meets at 4 p.m. each Tues day.
