An infrequent show is viewed for variety. Another couple whose recreation is “practically nil"—to quote them—is Robert and Bea McConnell. A freshman in pre med, Robert has his. BA degree in education from the Southern Idaho College of Education; Bea is also a graduate of that school. Robert spent three and one-half years in the army and has taught one year. Extra income is supplied by Robert’s check from a down town store .Bea goes home to Idaho in the summer to can veg etables, fruits and meat, which see them-through the winter on the food problem. Playing cards with the neighbors upstairs constitutes most of the McConnell’s recreation. But Karen, who is almost three, and year-old Bobby keep their parents entertained and busy Like most other mothers in the Flats. Bea keeps her children indoors most of the time to avoid mud puddles and construc tion "workers. There are other things homeplanners in the Flats agree on. Generally, they have come to three major conclusions: Efficient housekeeping is very difficult in the summer dust and winter mud of the Flats; very careful planning is neces sary to make ends meet and keep up the standards they have set; most of all, the families are anxious to finish school and aunch into their own careers in a competitive society that recognizes common problems and hardships.
