Webfoots Slash Pilot Quintet Hoopsters Win, 76-30 PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 4—(UP) - The Oregon Webfoots galloped to an easy 76 to 30 win over the Portland university Pilots here to night for their fourth pre-season basketball triumph in a row. Coach John Warren’s fast-break iug hoopsters hit the hemp from all angles and led 35 to 14 at half time. Forward Jim Bartelt led the Oregon scoring with 14 points. Ski Club Schedules Meeting to Set Trip The University Ski club will hold a short organizational meeting to night at 7 in 105 Oregon. Stan Ar thur, newly elected president, has announced plans will be discussed for a ski trip in the near future. This year the club is particular ly interested in students who are just beginning or would like to learn to ski, Arthur said. Duck Paddlers Drill For Conference Opener By ED ARTZT With the first Northern Division swimming' meet scheduled against the Oregon State Beavers, January 19, Coach Ray Kireilis has placed his fleet crew of paddlers under a rigorous training schedule. The varsity boys should be in tip-top shape by the big day. Holcomb Returns Kireilis will hold practice ses sions for his divers Tuesday nights, in addition to a carefully planned daily routine. The addi tion of football ace, Benny Hol comb, to the roster of spring hoard men will strengthen the Webfoot divers. Workouts for 50, 100, and 220 yard sprint men include a non-stop 880 swim which must be completed inside of fifteen minutes, a 440 yard non-stop swim only using the kick, and ten full-speed 40-yard sprints, with accent on turns, ev ery other day. When questioned as to the progress of the varsity paddlers, Kireilis chuck led, “They ate too much turkey over Thanksgiving.” Basketball League Next for Men's IM By WARD BEBB Intramural volleyball is at an end, but with only a short lull the spotlight turns on “A” and “B” basketball and handball. Basketball season gets under way on Monday, January 12, according to present plans. The league will be. set up on a round-robin basis. Living groups and independents entering only one team will be placed in the “A” league. According to 1947 rules upper division players cannot see action in the “B” circuit, but so far not enough players nave been turned in to organize a “B” league. A “B” tournament is expected to take shape by playing time, however. All entry blanks are to be turned in to the IM office not later than January 6. Participants playing handball will play on an elimination basis with two singles and one doubles making a team. Athletic managers are asked to turn entry blanks into the IM office or Jim Vitti imme diately. The “new look” is not new. It is merely a reversion of taste to the 18th century styles.
