Mark McColm, Representating News Services Pick Four Duck Gridders Four men from the second-place Oregon grid squad were named to all three of the All-Coast football teams selected by the wire news services. Halfback Jake Leicht. quarterback Norm Van Brocklin, end Dan Garza, and center Brad Ecklund, all placed on one of the three strings picked, by the International News Service, Associated Press, and United Press. Norm Van Brocklin was the only Webfoot named to the AP first team. Leicht and Garza were nominated to the second team, and center Ecklund placed on the third eleven. Van Brocklin earned his position as a result of being the leading passer on the coast. He was the only northwest man named to the first string, all the rest being from USC, UCLA, and California. Four Ducks on UP 11 Both Van Brocklin and Leicht earned berths on the top team of the UP, while Garza and Ecklund were picked for spots on the sec ond eleven. Leicht was the leading ground gainer on the coast this fall in his final season of college ac tion. Oregon did the best on the INS selections, placing three men on the first eleven. Leicht, Van Brock lin, and Brad Ecklund were named to the mythical starting team, and Garza was selected as left end on the second team. Ecklund was one of the hardest working gridders on the Oregon team, both offensively and defensively, while Garza was one of the top pass receivers on the coast, as well as a standout on defense. Leicht Won’t Return Of the four All-Coasters, only Leicht will be absent from the team next fall. Jake finished his college grid career in a blaze of glory this season as he not only paced the league in rushing but also led in kick-off returns and punt returns. Van Brocklin rose to the front in a sensational manner this year, af ter a 1946 season on the fifth team. Spotted early as an exceptional passer by Coach Jim Aiken he was immediately fitted into the slot of the T formation, where he quickly picked up its - tricks. His passing was always a big threat in the Oregon attack, and his ball-hand ling showed much improvement during the season. Ecklund, Garza Star Center Brad Ecklund completed his second successful year in the Oregon lineup, again proving to be one of the stalwarts of the forward wall. The 215-pounder has another year left. He played ruggedly on both offense and defense, and was second high man on the team in amount of game time. Left end Dan Garza completed his second year in the Oregon line up. His first was spent mostly on the sidelines, as he suffered a brok | en leg before the opening game and didn’t return till late in the season. He was one of the top pass catch ers on the coast this fall, and was the chief target of the Oregon aer ial game. Garza has another sea son left. USCMentor Worried LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1—(UP) Coach Jeff Cravath sent the South ern California football varsity through a brisk scrimmage against the junior varsity today.
