Officials Attend 'Cost' Hearing Four faculty members and the director of dormitories represented tne University of Oregon October 20 and 21 at a congressional hear ing in Portland investigating the increased cost of living. The Western subcommittee of the United States senate held meet ings for two days in the city hall council chambers, while repres entatives of commercial and con sumers groups explained how pres ent price levels affected them. Mrs. Genevive Turnipseed, dir ector of dormitories, presented a picture of the current dormitory budget as compared with the pat tern of the past eight years. Dr. Victor P. Morris and Dr. V/esley C. Ballaine of the Eacholer of Arts school, and Dr. Paul W. Ellis and Dr. Calvin Crurn baker of the economics department v, ere the faculty delegates. Together with Dr. M. N. Nelson, economics head at Oregon State, and a representative of Reed col lege they have been asked by the senate committee to evaluate the data accumulated at the hearing. It will be their task to analyze the material and to prepare conclus ions and recommendations. WSSF Plans to Help Student Plight Abroad Throwing a pass of $1000 in the general direction of the Burma area, specifically the University of Rangoon, will be one of the goals of this year's World Student Ser vice Fund drive, according to Chairman Mart Pond. “Selecting the Burma school to be recipients of Oregon aid along with several scholarships will stip ulate the destination of the funds raised here and consequently Study Clinic To Hear Student Problems Study problems facing individual students will be discussed, and specific advice given at a “study clinic" meeting tonight from 4 to 5 p. m. in the assist&nt dean of man’s conference room, sqcond [ floor of Emerald hall. Any student getting low grades in any course may attend the clinic, according to the dean's of fice. The clinic is scheduled to meet regularly from 4 to 5 p. m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Pond em phasizes that it is hoped that all students interested in the goal of the drive and who can afford to do so will contribute at least one dollar. Monday he addressed a group at Seders'trom hall, and Tuesday spoke at the Pi Kappa Alpha house.
