    Dr. Fogdall
Gives Help
In Studies
Students can help themselves
over some of the rough spots in
college hy observing suggestions of
fered in a list of “ten tips for scho
lastic sucess” drawn up by Dr.
Vergil S. Fogdall, assistant dean of
men.
In picking courses, the dean ad
vises students to choose those that
relate to their general interests and
vocational goals.
Dr. Fogdall rates time schedules
as important guides for arranging
study hours, and urges students
working part-time not to let jobs
interfere with their success in col
I lege. Putting off work, he points
out, is certain to result in later
overloads. Studying should be done
regularly.
Promptness Urged
Written work should bp done
in the manner requested, and should
meet the deadline set by the in
structor, the dean urges. Accurate
records of all work covered in the
students’ courses should be kept,
according to Fogdall, and complete
notes on all lectures, plus study
notes should be compiled during the
term.
Efficient studying is largly de
pendent on the pupil’s surround
ings, Dr. Fogdall points out, and
urges comfortable, well furnished
study rooms.
Health Important
“Adequate sleep, healthful food
and clean living habits will pay
good dividents in scholarship,” he
asserted.
Dr. Fogdall warns against cheat
I ing on examinations, pointing out .
detrimental results of such prac
tices on scholarship.
Techniques of studying effec
tively can be acquired by students
through reading books devoted to
recommended “An Outline of Best
Methods of Studying,” and Study
ing Effectively,” now on sale at the
Co-op. The University library is
acquiring a collection of books
dealing with study methods.
Students having personal study
I problems may receive help and
counceling from their professors,
the University academic advisor, or
the dean of men and dean of wo
men’s offices.
