Candidates Announced .For 'Betty, Joe' Contest 1 Candidiates for the Betty Coed and Joe College contest, an m mial feature of the Sophomore Whiskerino, were announced yes pi terday by committee heads. Preliminary judging will be done J this week, and actual voting on the 12 finalists will take place at the Wiskerino on October 25. The 24 enlarged panels, telling the story of Venice, will be hung in the main hall on the second floor. Organized in four groups, gov ernment, art and literature, civic, and private literature, the display consists of color reproductions of paintings by Titian, Veronese, and Giorgione; photographs of St. Marks, the Doge's palace, and sev eral portraits of famous men of that time. There are also views of private palaces, and the Grand Canal. The display was prepared under the direction of John Goldsmith Phillips, associate curator of re naissance and modern art, Metro politan museum of art. Baptist Pastor to Speak Rev. Peter Bakker, pastor of the Cottage Grove Baptist church, will be the principal speaker at the weekly meeting of the Intervar sity Christian fellowships tonight from 7 to 8 in the dining room of John Straub hall. Mr. Bakker is a graduate of Wheaton college. K. of C. Deputy Featured Philip Gent, district deputy' of the Knights of Columbus will lead the Newman club on a discussion of 1 ■1 — Communism tonight at 6:43 in tho YMCA.
