5ick Rayburn, Duke in' Lorraine' w zmphasizes Timeliness of Play By JANICE KENT Dick Rayburn, freshman in jour lalism, assumes the role of the cor upt adviser to the Dauphin in ‘Joan of Lorraine” which opens at Juild hall- Friday evening, May 23. Rayburn has appeared in two >ther University theater produc ions this season. He was seen in 'The Yellow Jacket” as Lee Sin, the armer, and in “The Green Pas ures” as one of the sons of Noah. Assumes Middle Age The actor whom Rayburn por trays while playing George, Duke 3e Tremoille, in the play within the play is a dignified middle-age man. He does not enter into the argu nents between the leading lady, Eiary Grey and the difector, Mas prs. Tremoille, however, is in con stant conflict with St. Joan. She has established the Dauphin upon the throne of France not knowing his weaknesses or his connections with the scheming nobles and false churchmen of the time. The Dauph in himself refers to Tremoille as “the greatest thief and most ac complished liar in all France.” The duke enlists the aid of the Archbishop of Rheims to have Joan involved in a trial after she inter feres too often with his plans to gain from the war by ransom col lections and secret treaties with the English. Production Timely Removing Joan from her position of influence with the ruler would give him complete power in the court. Tremoille,js not always suc cessful and oftefi finds himself out of the Dauphin’s favor. Rayburn believes that "Joan of Lorraine” will be a particularly popular production because of its timeliness and thought-provoking story. DICK RAYBURN . . .
