Vets' Loan Ratings
In Oregon High
Of the 7000 GI loans approved in
Oregon up to mid-March, only 51
have been in default, Charles Kup
per, Veterans Administration rep
resentative here, stated today. Most
of those in default were business
loans.
Kupper explained that defaults
may be reported by a lending agen
cy after a veterans-borrower fails
to make his payments. In only four
cases in Oregon has the VA been
required to pay out money on a
guaranteed loan.
Of the 51 cases of default, nine
have been cleared up by the vet
eran himself and most of the oth
ers are under negotiation. Nine vas
es are now in process of liquidation.
While defaults are few in num
ber todate, especially in the home
loan f^eld, no great significance
should be attached to this showing,
because most contracts have been
running only a short time, Kupper
pointed out.
The VA cautions veterans against
hasty use of their loan guaranty
privilege in the current high-priced
real estate market, he said, adding a
reminder that GI loan benefits will
be available for ten years after the
official end of the war.

The library has proved a success
ful spot for either study or dating.
Fines in the reserve book room
of the library mount up at the rate
of 25 cents an hour until a maxi
mum fine of $1 is reached. If li
brary fines are not paid cash on
the line, they are deducted from the
delinquent student’s breakage fee.
Instead of having library fines
deducted from your breakage fee,
return your books on time and do
nate the balance of your breakage
fee to the student union fund.
