    Oregon Hygiene Program
Applauded at Conference
Oregon’s social hygiene program
was lavishly applauded as the best
ih the nation at the annual confer
ence of Social Hygiene Executives
of the American Social Hygiene as
sociation in New York City early
this month, according to Mrs.
George Moorhead, associate profes
sor of physical education, who has
just returned from the meetings.
Mrs. Moorhead was interviewed
about the Oregon system by four
of New York’s leading newspapers

giene films for the United Nations,

UNESCO is interested in seeing the j
University’s new film on human;
growth and reproduction when it is
released, with a view to placing cop
ies of it in the U. S. embassies
throughout the world. She also dis
cussed the possibility of equipping
the film with Spanish sound tracks.
Participating in the session on
“How Can Family Life Education
Be Made a Part of the School Cur
riculum,” Mrs. Moorhead presented
an outline of Oregon’s social hy
giene program. She made particu
lar reference to the Oregon state
joint committee and Oregon’s new
social hygiene and physical educa
tion laws, and the implementation
of these by social hygiene pro
grams.
She also presented background
material leading to the production
of the University’s forthcoming mo
tion picture on human reproduction,
now being produced in Hollywood
under the sponsorship of the E. C.
Brown trust fund. The pilot version
of the film was unanimously ac
claimed by all the delegates, she

Attending the conference was
Fred Scherer, director of the social
hygiene program of the Oregon Tu
berculosis association, which is Ore
gon’s affiliate of the American So
cial Hygiene association. He served
as moderator on the panel discus
sion on “How Can We Reach the
Child Through the Parent.’’ The
Oregon Tuberculosis association is
carrying on an extensive program
in behalf of parents, primarily
through local health associations.
