    YMCA Secretary
To Speak Monday
Choosing as his topic, “The
Veteran and the New American
Campus,” Edward Carroll, nation
al student secretary of the YMCA,
will speak at the YWCA bungalow
Monday at 8:15 p. m.
Carroll will be presented jointly
by<the YMCA, YWCA and the One
Wbrld club. A veteran himself,
Carroll’s work with the YM con
cerns veterans, and he is acquaint
ed with problems which may con
front veterans. He is travelling
throughout Oregon next week.
Following his speech, an infor
mal discussion period will be held.
Students and faculty members are
invited to attend.
Arrangements for his stay in
Eugene have been made by the
YMCA, and he will be their dinner
guest Monday. Tuesday noon
Carroll will lunch with the YWCA
cabinet.
Red Cross Requests
Slogans for Campaign
All campus living organizations
are requested to submit a slogan
for the University Red Cross drive
next month, according to Barbara
Johns, co-chairman of the drive.
Slogans must be turned in to
either Diane Meade, at the Gamma
Phi Beta house, or Harriet Vannat
ta, at the Kappa Kappa Gamma
house, not later than 5 p.m. next
Tuesday.
A record album will be awarded
to the living organization which
submits the winning slogan.

were able to find seats in old 105
journalism.

Robert K. Allen, advertising
agency proprietor from Seattle, and
his wife ("Dusty" Farnham) flew
down from Seattle to attend the
conference. Both are school of jour
nalism graduates. Bob is a son of
the late Dean Eric W. Allen.

Oregon alumni, were down from
Portland. Both are Portland adver
tising men. Walter's wife (Marge
Finnegan! also is an Oregon grad.
Nat L,. Pieper, public relations
man from San Francisco, who has
been coming to conferences for
more than ten years, dating from
the time when he was an FBI man,
was shaking hands among the pub
lishers. In those earlier days Nat
used to be mistaken for an upper
class student.
In 1901, the appropriation for
the Eugene summer school for
teachers was $400.

Lutherans to Hold Meet,
Supper Sunday Night
Gamma Delta, Lutheran student
group, will hold a fellowship meet
ing and cost supper Sunday evening
at 5:30 in the basement of Grace
Lutheran church, Eleventh and
Ferry streets.
Clarence Kraft of the Spanish de
partment will speak and answei
questions on Mexico and Chile
where he has studied. Prior to the
war Kraft studied in Chile on an
exchange scholarship. Last sum
mer he atteended the University of
Mexico in Mexico City.
All Lutheran students and their
friends are invited to attend.
