[heater Sponsors Script Competition The Portland Civic theater has announced a full-length play con test for the 1947-1948 season, with ?,250 prize for the winning entry. Any resident of Oregon, Wash i igton, or British Columbia may submit manuscripts. The plays t nist be full length and original. and there are no restrictions as to theme or subject, except those restrictions affecting productibili ty. However, special considera tion will be given to plays based on contemporary or historic life in Oregon. Judging will place emphasis on effectiveness of lines and situa tions, rather than spectacular staging devices. The right of original production of the winning play shn>l be retained by the civic theater, providing the play is pro duced not later than the 1948-49 season. Applications for rules of the contest must be received by March 1 and' the manuscripts must filed before September 1, 1947. Appli cations should be addressed to the chairman of the play contest committee, Portland Civic theater, 1030 S. W. Yamhill street, Port land 5, Oregon. In 1888, Portland had two high schools. Symposium Discusses Oregon Tax Problems The symposium group, consist ing of Carrell Bradley, Don Dole, and Nancy Peterson with Dr. R. D. Clark, professor of speech and dramatic arts, presented the “Tax Problem in Oregon” to the Port land and Clatskanie Kiwanis and Westport, Clatskanie, and Rainier high schools on January 28 and 29.
