Amazon Flat Piping Processed by Chlorine A sterilization process of the water distribution mains at Ama zon flats, veterans’ housing project, was carried on Thursday in prepa ration for use as household water supply lines. W. J. Cloyes, Lane county se nior sanitarian, said that the mains would be filled with a chlorinated liquid which would be allowed to remain in the pipes for 24 hours. Hayward Galls (Continued from page four) seconds off his time once the sea son gets underway. Backing up Maxey and Swan in the quarter-mile are veteran runners Ernie Schauer and Dick Shelton. Schauer was close on Swan’s heels in many of the races last year and Shelton kept his talents to his pet, the javelin, but expects to hit the cinder paths this spring. Ducks Strong Oregon is going to be strong in nearly all the running events, stronger probably than any other school in the conference, and this is especially true in the half mile where Hayward is preening Stu Norene for torrid times. Norene left Oregon State’s track mentor, Grant Swan, with a long face when he transferred from the Aggies to Oregon this fall. The conference at first denied Stu any more eligibility, declaring that he had used all his by the move from State to Oregon. The penalty for switching schools is one year less of competition, but an investiga tion into Norene’s career revealed that one season was used while he was in the service, therefore giv ing Him the one extra year that he now has. Distance Men Few It’s the distance that has Hay ward a bit worried. ..Oregon used to have the strongest runners in the conference in the distance events, but has been unable to unearth any outstanding talent lately. Chief hope in the mile and two mile for Hayward this year are Hugh Stapleton, George Watkins, and A1 Pietschman. The field events are on a par with the running spots, strong in nearly all of them, but lacking weight men for the shotput ana possibly the discus. Bob Anderson, former ace at the discus and now in the army, may be dicharged in time to add his strength to this event for Hayward, but nothing is certain on his yet, according to the coach. Everything points to one of the biggest years in track for Oregon, and Hayward wants to make cer tain that it is the biggest year. He maintains that tough mter squad competition makes strong teams, and hopes every man with track experience will contact him at Mac court.
