Puddles Painted, Says LJO Alumnae A phone call received last night at the University press, just as The Emerald was ready to roll, pre dicted a dire fate for Puddles, the erstwhile snowy white duck mas cot. The Portland call, from a wo man who said she was a University graduate and a loyal alumnae, told The Emerald that Puddles had been kept in McMinnville since its per fidious removal from Eugene by the northern branch and that tlie duck would appear at the half, painted in the Aggies orange and black colors. Puddles, a self-respecting Oregon rooter, was spirited away from his master, Jim McElintock, early this week. Nylon Hose Thief Caught in Portland PORTLAND, Nov. 22 — (API Six thousand pair of nylon stock ings led today to the arrest of a man who had recently opened stocking stores in Portland and Seattle. James Purcell, chief of detec tives, identified the man as Jo seph Lewis MansoUr, 2G, indicted by a Multnomah county grand jury on a charge of grand larceny. Purcell said the 0000 pair of stockings arrvied here by air from New York Aug. 3, consigned to Harry Bernow. Purcell said they were picked up by another man and wound up in Mansour’s posses sion. Purcell said Mansour refused lo answer questions, and in the meanwhile police are looking for Bernow, in whose behalf a suit was filed against the air line that car ried the hose.
