Japan Minister To Speak Here Rev. Howard Norman, who will gpeak during Religious Emphasis week, was born in Japan in 1905, Uie son of Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Norman, missionaries of the United Church of Canada. Rev. Norman recevied his high school education in Japan. In 1927 he received his BA degree at Victo ria college at University of Toronto, Canada, where he was the honor student in English and history. He received his diploma in theology at Emanuel college Toronto, in 1931 and was awarded the Travel ing fellowship. With this honor he was enabled to study at West minster college in Cambridge, Eng land; he studied a month in France, Germany and Denmark, making a complete study of the Folk high schools in Denmark. Was Superintendent of Orphanage Rev. Norman resided in Takya, Kobe, and Kanazawa, Japan, and was superintendent of the Kanaza wa orphanage for five years. Dur ing his residence in Japan he prac ice juijitsu "with Japanese students and policemen and was awarded the black belt in juijitsu. Rev. Norman was also teacher of English in Tayamu junior col lege for four years during his stay in Japan. Works With War Problems At present Rev. Norman is min ister of the St. George United church of Vancouver, Canada and is vice-president of the Consulta tive Council in War Time Prob lems of Canadian Citizenship. “What About the Japanese-Can idians?” was a booklet written by Rev. Norman and 15,000 copies were sold and distributed across Canada. He was asked twice to broadcast over the Town Hall meeting of the air, Vancouver, on l ho Japanese-Canadian problem. From 1944-19-15 Rev. Norman was instructor in the Japanese language *t the Canadian army language ichdol, in Vancouver, Canada.
