Webb’s trusty automobile proved not so trusty Tuesday and he had to fly to his Coos Bay speak ing engagement. When his car failed to respond, Mr. Webb, assistant professor of journalism, chartered a plane from the Cottage Grove airport and land ed on the coast in time to open Na tional Newspaper week there with a talk at the Coos Bay Rotary club. Manager of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers association, Webb cen tered his speech around the individ ual’s privileges and responsibilities under freedom of the press. "It is the responsibility of the in dividual,” said Webb, “to give the reporter facts. Particularly infor mation on questions of controver sy.” He stressed the fact that the newspaper is often forced to give a one-sided picture because of one faction’s failure to give out infor mation. Professor Webb added that loss of freedom of the press is loss to the individual. Also in connection with National Newspaper week, associate profes sor of journalism, Warren C.
