Beach War Story Aired at 4 Today “Beach Red" adapted from the hook by “Ox” Wilson and Roberta Quigley will be presented by the University Workshop Players on station KOAC at 4 today. It is a story of the landing of a detachment of soldiers on a hy pothetical “Beach Red" during the .second world war. The book was dedicated to all the men who did not return. “This is the biggest job we have undertaken up until now,” re marked Wilson. "The sound, music, and acting will have to be tops." Upon requesting to allow the adaption to be broadcast Wilson said that the publishers wrote back that they would be gratified to have it done. Lee Petrasek is in charge of sound and Herb Penny music. Members of the cast include: Ro berta Quigley, Paul Marcotte, Fred Beckwith, Jack Miller, Ted Hallock, Stan Boquist, Vernon Barkhurst, David Waite, John Mathews, and John Hammerbeck. At 4:30 Mary Stapleton, pianist from the school of music, will play “Berceuse" by Chopin, “Waltz in A Flat" by Chopin, and “Concert Etude in D Flat" by Liszt. This is being produced by Ted Hallock. Lorene Thompson, vocalist, and Gordon Halstead, announcer are on the “Something for You” program at 4:45. Miss Thompson is sing ing “Stardust," “All Through the Day,” “I’m Always Chasing Rain bows," and “Mood Indigo." Kehrli to Make Tour Of Northwest Meets Attending the convention of the Association of Washington cities scheduled May 16 and 17 in Yaki ma, Washington, will be Herman Kehrli, director of the bureau of municipal research and service. Kehrli is associate professor of po litical science. He will attend the annual meet ing of the Pacific Northwest Sew age Works association in Gearhart May 22, and the conference of the Pacific Northwest section of the American Waterworks association May 23 and 24. He will address the latter group May 23 on “Retire ment and Pension for Municipal Water Works Employees.” Miss Wittwer Resigns Greek Bloc Post The resignation of Margue rite YVittvver, managing editor of the Emerald, as secretary of the University Greek bloc has been accepted, Don Mayne, bloc leader, announced Wed nesday. Pi Lambda Theta Taps Six Women Six University women, three of them graduate students, have been pledged to Pi Lambda Theta, wom en's national education honorary. The graduate students pledged are Leila Beatty and Margaret Onion, both candidates for master’s degree; and Dorothy Cook, candi date for doctor’s degree. Other student pledges are Marjory Pri ger, Carol O’Brien, and Marcella Johnson. Initiation will be held Saturday, May 18, at 5 p.m. in Gerlinger hall on the campus, and will be follow ed by a formal dinner at the Eu gene hotel. Guest speaker for the occasion will be Mrs. Golda P. Wickham, dean of women. Six Patients Added To Infirmary Rolls Six people entered the infirmary yesterday, making more work for Mrs. Ida Brown, nurse, on her first day back to work after a week of absence. Harold Taylor escaped the pill-rollers yesterday, and Jim Kolts moved into Ward 6, leaving Jan Kok alone in Ward 8. Our apol ogies go to Jim for spelling his last name Koltz. Floating Dormitory MARIETTA, Ohio—(UP)—Ma rietta college has a new floating dormitory to ease its student hous ing problem. The new “dorm” is a 111-foot craft called The Pioneer. Water, gas and electricity lines are being put through to the city’s facilities and gas heat will be installed. College officials say the boat will be used to house 50 students. His lecture is entitled “Pacific Northwest Horizons.” He is sponsored by Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honor ary, and Sigma Xi, national science honorary. This is the twenty-third annual joint meeting of the two chapters. Formal initiation of new members and a banquet will be held in a closed session at the Osburn hotel prior to the lecture. Walker Resigns UO Post For Mills Professorship Dr. F. D. Walker, former profes sor of English in the University, who has been on military leave since February, 1943, has resigned from the University to accept the Morrison chair of American litera ture as professor in American lit erature at Mills college. During his service in the air coips, Dr. Walker was assigned to writ? a history of that group. He received his baccalaureate degree from Oxford university, England, in 1924, and his doctoral degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1930.
