MAY 11. 1946 State Fair’ Festivities Continue Today Highlighted by Float Parade•, Coronation STATE FAIR QUEEN AND COURT Crowns officially designating their right to rule this year’s Junior Weekend tonight will be placed on the shining hair of Queen Pat I. center, and her court of princesses, left to right, Mary Dixon, Marilyn Rakow, Miss Metcalf, Deris Spearow, and June Johnson. Chi Omega, Omega Hall WinSing; Skull and Dagger Pledges 20 Topping some 22 women’s or ganizations and 9 men’s groups represented at the 1946 All-Cam puS Sing, Chi Omega sorority and Omega hall claimed the cups awarded annually at the Junior Weekend event when they sang “Without a Song,’’ and “De Animals A-Comin’,” last night in McArthur court. Judges for the contest were Earl M. Pallett, president of the Eugene Gleemen; John Stehn, music in structor; and Glenn Griffith, super visor of music of the Eugene public school system. The Chi O's, looking like a clean and shining Oregon spring day in their pink, blue, green, and yellow "•♦dresses, were awarded the Pan hellenic cup, while Omega's men, in suits and hard-to-get white shirts, received the Interfraternity prize. Betty Householder directed her winning sisters while Jan Kok led the top men. Schwering Scholarships Other “State Fair” winners, an nounced at the end of the vocal numbers, included Pearl Peterson, junior in liberal arts, who was named recipient of the second an nual Hazel P. Schwering scholar ship. Miss Peterson, who received the grant presented by Mrs. Perrie L. Dolph, chairman of the Schwer ing scholarship committee, is a member of Orchesis, modern dance honorary, and Pi Mu Epsilon, na tional mathematics honorary. Myrl Sykes, junior in liberal arts, Norma Granstrom, junior in liberal arts, and Jean Alexander, junior in liberal arts, also received Hazel P. Schwering scholarships, providing a quartette of winners, instead of a single recipient. The Schwering scholarships are being awarded this year for the second time, in honor of the late dean of women. Best Cleaners University house and Sherry Ross hall captured top cleaning honors, when they were awarded bonus tickets in the Thursday Clean-up activity. Tapped for Skull and Dagger were 20 freshmen, who will take their places in the sophomore men's honorary fall term. Feature events on today’s headline program are: 1. Tug of war between freshmen and sophomores. 2. Carnival float parade down Willamette street. 3. Outdoor dinner on the campus. 4. Coronation of Queen Pat Metcalf. 5. Orchesis dance program. 6. The Junior Prom featuring Gus Arnheim and his orchestra. Junior weekend co-chairmen Marilyn Sage and Tom Kay have promised that today’s festivities will be packed with en tertainment with the jamboree spirit of a “State Fair” key noting the celebration. Registration of Oregon Mothers here for the annual Mother’s Day held in conjunction with Junior Weekend, will begin today’s program. Registration will take place at Johnson hall from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jean Watson is chairman of the Mothers’ Weekend. Tug of War A back-breaking tug-of-war between the freshmen and sopnomore class will follow at 11 a.m. in the area beside the music building. The Order of the 'O' will supervise this event. Each living organization should see that five of its members are present by 10:45 a.m. Leroy Erickson, O' president said Friday. Mothers Tea Another event on the Mothers’ program will be a tea at Gerlinger hall from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The tea is sponsored joint ly by the Eugene branch of the Oregon Mothers club, the YWCA, and the Associated Women students.
