It might cut down house bills, and boost trade at the Side, but it won’t feed the people of Europe. As far as its being a graphic demonstration of what our starving allies are going through, I know I have been a lot hungrier several times during the past three years, and so have the rest of the returning service men, than after eating the prescribed starvation meal. “Don't buy beer or whiskey.” Did it ever occur to whoever wrote that that there is a process of aging that goes on in these beverages, and that the wheat used in them was harvested some years ago. As sensible a solution would be for the liquor commission to sell nothing but Canadian Club and Haig and Haig, so the US wheat and grain could be used elsewhere. (The more I read that last sentence over the better it sounds.) My whole point is that as long as they have made up their minds to feed the starving people of the world, why don’t they go ahead and do it, from the producer's end instead of all this foolishness from the consumer’s angle. As long as the food is abundant on the gro cer’s shelves, people will buy it, and if it becomes scarce, they will understand why. gripe a little, and get along as before. I fail to see how boycotting Safeway’s is going to feed a hungry world in the next 90 days. Maybe you can explain it. Just one other question. Assum ing this food is shipped to Europe and Asia, how will it be distribut ed ? Will it go to retail and whole salers in foreign countries, or will it be distributed by such organiza tions as the Red Cross? The rea son I ask is that I know, as do all the servicemen who have seen these countries, and black market systems, that if it goes to foreign PETS— When Your Mom Comes Down Show Her the Pets at OREGON TRAIL PET CORRAL 35 W 11th Phone 3284 • • • by wire and radio! Maybe you’ve thought of the Bell ” Telephone System as using only wires. It uses and pioneers in radio too. Radio waves are used to carry-> your voice across the seas to tele phones in other lands . . . across water barriers here at home... to vessels plying inland waters and to ships out at sea. And before too long, radio links will provide tele phone service for cars and trucks. Radio relay systems that will carry long distance messages from city to city are now in the advanced experimental stage. In every case the Bell System uses the kind of transmission, wire or radio, that provides the best service for the most people. BELL TELEPHONE SYSTEM dealers, very little of it will reach the people who are in need of ii. Have you any information along this line? ■—Don Mac Kenzie. | iwomi * UTFITTEBS 61 E.
