    Final 'Let’s Sing’ Program
To Hit Airwaves Thursday
An estimated 800 students from one- and two-room grade
schools in Oregon will gather in McArthur court Thursday
^morning to participate in the final broadcasLof the radio pro
gram “Let’s Sing, America.”
Now ending its third year, “Let’s Sing, America” is a pro
gram designed to promote an interest in the songs of America

age. Directed by Maude Garnett,
associate professor of public school
music, the program is broadcast
each week over KOAC. Eleven
junior public school majors from
the University have assisted Miss
Garnett in arranging and produc
ing the weekly show.
A full schedule of events has
been planned for the broadcast
Thursday. Roosevelt junior high of
Eugene will present an 80-piece
choir, under the direction of Mrs.
Marjorie Wilson. Two dance num
bers, a country square dance and
a Mexican hat dance, will be of
fered by students of Condon grade
school of Eugene. The children in
the Mexican number have been
trained by a University student,
Cassie Delia Hyde, freshman in
'"‘liberal arts. The Eugene high
school orchestra, under the direc
tion of Douglas Orme, will play
several selections.
As on all “Let’s Sing, America”
broadcasts, the grade school stu
dents will take an active part in
the program Thursday.

One World Elections
Set for 8 p.m. Meeting
The One World club, internation
ally-minded discussion and activity
group, will hold a meeting this
evening to elect officers, Betty
Walter, One World secretary, an
nounced Tuesday. The meeting
will be held at 7:15 p.m. at the
YWCA.
Aims of the One World club,
Miss Walter explained, are to pro
mote campus interest in national
and international affairs, to co
operate with various campus and
national relief and educational
campaigns, and to increase their
own individual information on cur
rent affairs.
At present the club is cooperat
ing with the French club with its
“Food for France” relief drive. It
has also aided the campus com
mittee to aid the Committee of 100.
UPPERCLASSES

After graduation he worked as
reporter on the Oregonian staff for
a year, until he went East to study
the publishing situation in New
York and other eastern cities. His
activities, before he became one
of America’s best-read novelists,
included such things as covering
a police beat, “busting” bronchos,
and being completely broke in
Greenwich village with rejected
manuscripts as his sole possession.
While at the University, Haycox
was a member of Delta Tau Delta
and Sigma Delta Chi. He was also
editor of the Sunday Emerald, the
literary edition of the daily.
Immediately following the as
sembly, a special senior class meet
ing will be held to elect permanent
officers and to discuss graduation
procedure.

Vets to Organize
UO Legion Post
The University of Oregon post
of the American Legion will be of
ficially organized Thursday when
campus veterans meet at 7 p.m.
in 207 Chapman hall to draw up
the new charter, according to El
liot Wilson, temporary chairman
of the group.
Wilson pointed out that this is
not intended to be just a tempo
rary organization, but a permanent
chapter of the Legion; and all vet
erans who become members at
this meeting will be the charter
members of the new post.
Officers for the coming year also
will vbe elected Thursday and all
men interested in the American
Legion should plan to attend.
Bernard McCudden is temporary
secretary of the organizing com
mittee.
