Phi Beta Names New ’47 Officers The election of new officers for the year of 1946-47 was held at the regular meeting of Phi Beta on .^Thursday, February 28, at the home of Mrs. Edward Gray. The new officers ipclude: President, Patricia Metcalf; 1st vice-presi dent, Patricia Jordan; 2nd vice president, Sylvia Killman; secre tary, Ailene Wendt; treasurer, Ro berta Quigley; historian, Berta Reische; reporter, Robbieburr Warrens; assistant reporter, Becky Fish. The newly-elected of ficers will be installed at the next regular meeting. A musical program prepared by Janet Shafer and Sylvia Killman was presented following the elec tion of officers. Those participat ing were: Hazel Northrup, Eliza beth DeCou, Elida DeBortoli, and Joyce Jordan, an alum. Following the business meeting and music portion of the program, refreshments were served by the alums. >~_Miss Foreman Visits Ruth Foreman, ’45, last year a journalism major at the Univer sity, returned to the campus Tues day visiting friends. Miss Fore man of Monroe left last year be cause of ill health, and plans to return next year to complete her education. horsehidF (Continued front pane ten) teams Oregon has fielded for the baseball season. 43 Prospects Forty-three prospects turned out for the meeting, including seven pitchers, six catchers, seventeen infielders, and thirteen outfielders. But, so far as Coach Hobson knows, there will be no returning lettermen on the 1946 varsity J*am, although there is still a chance an Order of the O man may turn out after spring term starts. So much for the mere names. Actually there was a number of melon performers who were more than adequate in their parade on the pinewoods. It’s hard to elimin ate such lads as Kenny Hays, Le Don Henson of Washington, Car baugh of Idaho, Anderson of OSC, and little Stan Williamson. It would be a lot of fun to see the first string on the floor all at one time. The only trouble with these lads is that they are all individualists and might not per form too well together. All of 'em finished high in the point scoring column. In order to prevent players from turning out who are not eligible, Hobby outlined the conference eli gibility rules to the men at the meeting. He said if a player is in school this term he must pass at least ten hours of work to be eli gible for this season. If a candidate cessfully or in other words passed five times the number of hours he has flunked. A slight change in the schedule of conference games was complet ed this week to give Oregon a long er time to get into condition. The two games scheduled with OSC for April 12-13 have been moved up to May 24-25 and Washington State will be Oregon’s opening op ponertt tor conference play on April 17-18.
