    'Theatre’ Revives
’Ten Nights’ Epic
By Shirley Anderson
Opening a seven-night showing
[ in the Very Little theater at the
I fairgrounds Saturday is "Ten
Rights in a Bar Room,” a revival
of the'famous old melodrama. The
play is under the direction of
George Hebert, who had consid
erable dramatic experience with
the Portland Civic theater before
coming to Eugene.
Curtain-time is 8 p.m. for the
moral drama, written in much the
same vein as Harriet Beecher
Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,”
pointing out the curse of drink and
the evil effects of over-indulgence.
Written in a serious tone and
played straight, the play is bound
to receive varied interpretations.
The plot of the play deals with
the regeneration of a drunkard,
while an enterprising innkeeper
falls prey to the undermining in
fluences surrounding him and
yields to the temptations of drink.
The costumes for the drama fol
low the styles of the Gay Nineties
| era, made authentic through per
' -pftal contributions and donations.
1 Brown. of the University
fCo-op store, and Gretchen Parker
are in charge of the costuming for
the play and for the five olio acts
which will be given as entertain
ment between each scene. The
songs and dances continuing the
action between curtains are di
rected by Gene Edwards.
In keeping with the VLT tradi
tion, coffee will be served free of
charge at intermission. Tickets for
the melodrama are on sale at the
Willamette street market.
Beer Well Regulated
Dean Earl Declares
The following quotations were
given by the United Press Thurs
day regarding the application for
abegr license by the College Side
IrfiTsVirgil D. Earl, dean of men,
declared, “Just closing one place
near the campus doesn’t solve the
problem. We’ve got things regu
lated fairly well. If- the person is
of legal age the question is one
for him to decide.”
Officials in the police depart
ment said, “It’s probably better if
the students don't have beer near
them, although there is no prob
lem.”

Pilot Group Backs
Seniority Protection
The Oregon branch for dis
charged military pilots has recent
ly been formed and elected Calvin
W. Sargent, former ATC lieuten
ant, as its head. The Military
Pilots association was established
last November and is now banded
throughout the country. Its pur
pose is to establish and protect the
seniority rights of discharged mili
tary pilots.
At present military pilots receive
no rating for time spent in flying
while in the service, according to
Sargent. While both military and
civilian pilots were doing the same
jobs during the war, he declared,
civilians were the only ones re
ceiving credit towards seniority.
Sargent, a Eugene resident, was
discharged from the service last
Saturday. He has been in the army
since 1942 and with the airlines a
year and a half.
At present he is instructor for
the Chenault Flying Club at the
Eugene airport. This club has been
established since June 1945.
Sargent can be contacted at his
home at 1825 Onyx street, tele
phone 1953-M, or the Eugene air
port, telephone 4067-M.
