Discharged WAC Heads Agua Coeds You’ve probably already noticed her. Everyone has. In case you’re mystified as to just who we’re talking: about, we shall strive to enlighten you. Her name is Mar garet E. Brewster, and by occupa tion she's the women’s swimming instructor here at the University of Oregon. A splendid swimmer herself. Miss Brewster is doing much in her field as girls' instructor. Al though this is not Miss Brewster's first attempt at teaching swim ming, she considers the pool and the entire Women’s Athletic asso ciation here at the University in excellent condition. As for the girls themselves, she says that on the whole, there are definitely many girls who will soon become excellent swimmers. Miss Brewster is an ex-service woman, and at the time of her honorable discharge from W.A.C.’s she answered to the title of “First Lieutenant.” She spent ten months overseas and the rest of her three years in service as assistant direc tor in the first W.A.C. training center, Fort Des Moines, Iowa. Although she misses the excite ment of army life, she is very in terested in her swimming depart ment here, and has a high interest in the final outcome of the wom en’s intramurals and the inner collegiate telegraphic meet to be held here in Gerlinger hall Feb ruary 20 and 27. She hopes to come out at least second as was the case last year, or better still, to score top honors as in 1944. Miss Brewster is taking the place of Mrs. Mary Berry, and hopes to keep the girls in good form “like Mrs. Berry did.” Miss Brewster also announced today the names of the three girls chosen as new Amphibians. They are Joyce Armstrong, Rosaline Enns, and Dianna Dye. Formal pledging is being held tonight in the Gerlinger hall gym. Be sure and have your dad register when he arrives for Ore .gon Dads' Day, February' 1 and 2. Bernard Engel to Head Emerald Copy-Editors Bernard Engel, senior in jour nalism, has been named chief copy editor of the Emerald by Louise Montag, editor. He will supervise the organization of the copy desk, sign up desk editors and headline writers, and instruct new workers. After completing his junior year at the University in 1942, Engel served three and one-half years in the army. During that time he spent a year in Europe as regi mental correspondent for the 413th Infantry. Engel has had three years of experience on the Emerald and is a member of Sigma Delta Chi, na tional professional journalistic fra ternity. He is a charter member of the Three O’clock club, organi zation of Emerald night staff workers. AROUND THE CLOCK (Continued from page jive) managed to win some 90-odd battles, while losing only two, throughout his fistic career. He has a clean slate for the past year, and is a tried and true artist with the leather. During the course of the past year he made a valid defense of his title against Phil Terranova, and won handily. His other fights have been with the rank and file of the feathers, but the big question will be answered this year when the rising crop of former stars and the service potentials bring the pressure to bear for the honor of being top man in that class, and there we rest our case.
