Vets’ G.l. Garb Sets Style Pace Joe College Sports Issue Togs As Civvie Shortage Continues By JIM LCNN Most of the fellows seen gadding about campus seem to have been, hit hard by the clothing shortage. One may see odd combinations of old G.I. attire and new civilian clothing. The entire trend, caused by necessity, adds a touch of the cosmopolitan to the scene and may in time become a regular and accepted part of all college cloth ing. It Says Here: Portions of the G.I. uniform have definite advantage over civil ian types. Jackets are more com fortable and permit freedom of action to the wearer. G.I. trousers, while having rather unusable pockets, are made of a strong shine-resistant material which holds its press much better than average civilian cloth. Trends may come and trends may go but the G.I. uniform will prob ably go on for quite some time to come. With prospects of an even more acute shortage in the future, portions of uniforms will probably be seen for quite some time to come. Let’s Re-enlist So, all hail the field jacket and make a Tfild dash for that battle C!ean Shos Repair Y ou'U like the neat way we finish our shoe L repair jobs, be k cause our shop I j anil workmen I are clean as can be. Salzedo (Continued from page one) of her cello is unique. She places an Idaho potato inside her cello case. “This prevents the seams of the cello from coming unglued and keeps the moisture humidified,” she declared. Cellists on the cam pus will be glad to know that this method has been very satisfactory. Beautiful to hear and to look at, the harps used by Miss Allen and Mr. Salzedo are superior pieces of craftsmanship. They are hand carved from maple which has been cured for fifty years. The strings are made from cat gut (cat owners take heed). Each string is a dif ferent note; all the C strings are green, the F strings are purple and the rest are red. This gives a multi colored rainbow effect. Jewelry Out Jewelry is not worn by any of the ensemble members. It not only interferes with their playing, but appears to add various unmusical sounds. The ensemble was presented through the auspices of the Eugene Civic Music association which is headed by Mr. G. E. Gaylord. The ECMA is regarded as the out standing one of its kind in the United States, not only because of the manner in which it is run, but also because of the talented 'roup of artists it is able to pre sent to its members and Oregon students. The group will go to Santa Cruz, California, next and their tour this winter will take them into Canada before it ends. Petitions Open (Continued from page one) the new organization will be dis cussed at the first meeting. The entire program is being thrown in the lap of the veteran. A signa ture on one of the petitions will indicate the signer’s approval and plans will carry on from there. Those who bring joy to others cannot keep it from themselves. BELIEVE ME!
