With a none too abundant supply of re serves, Oliver is relying on good condition of the first team to last most of the game this Saturday at Portland. -—Coach Pest Welch of Washing ton is spending his time on the turf trying to convince high-riding Huskies the Oregon team is more than a Leicht worry. The Huskies have been informed through their head man of the ability in Oregon’s candidate for All-American, Jake Leicht. Good Average on Kicks Leicht has averaged better than 55 yards on kickoffs, 40 yards on punts and has kicked two extra points from placement. Small as he is, his defensive work both in tackling and foiling the passes is not to be overlooked. The Huskies, in their first en counter with Oregon, did not op pose Leicht, and Reynolds did not handle the T. With these two changes, the Oregon team and Oliver will be trying for a win. No Match The Washington team has no in dividual who can perform or match Jake Leicht, but their team is well balanced, and backed with re serves, experience and a chance for the Rose Bowl. ' Washington and Oregon have both given gridmen long workouts in the rain. Neither coach expects to be caught without some know ledge of what to do on a slippery turf. Both teams will be able to have a full week of practice, because of the short distance in traveling hours to Portland for the two schools. A capacity crowd of 20,000 is assured Saturday to add color to this momentous occasion, in foot ball, via Portland. The Huskies survived the gruelling name wiui no serious injuries. Only Gail Bruce, who saw no action against Southern Cal., may be on the side lines at kickoff time in Multnomah Stadium Saturday. Bruce, regular right end, reinjured his right knee in practice before the Trojan game and hasn’t suited up since. How ever, Marvin Hein, who played a whale of a game agains USC as Bruce’s substitute, scoring the Huskies first touchdown on a pass from Joe Stone, will be set at the right wing-post in the Oregon battle. The Huskies are confident but r not cocky. They know that Ore gon is probably the best club on the Coast when they’re “up” and figure Jake Leicht, Bob Reynolds & Co. will be loaded to knock them off. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson high school in Long Beach, he entered this fall as a physical education major, with plans on coaching a championship football team some day. After the game, I was a bruised and batter ed mess.” As to the remaining games the Webfoots have to play, Bill could see nothing better than a mighty victory over the confident Huskies Saturday and our "Civil War” rivals December 1. After football season, Andy will devote his athletic ability to the swimming team.
