AKGENTINITA “Spain’s No. 1 Dancer” and her troupe will appear in McArthur court Tuesday, December 5, under the auspices of the Eugene Civic Music Association. Argentinita, Dancing Star Will Be Here December 12 Argentinita, whom Time magazine has tagged as “Spain’s Number One Dancer,” will lead her troupe of Spanish dancers and musicians in a performance Tuesday, December 5, at McArthur court. With Pilar Lopez, Jose Greco, Manolo Vargas, guitarist Carlos Montoyo, and accompanying musicians, Argentinita will offer a program of dances not only of Spain, but of Latin America, which she has gathered during tours of remote provinces. Her dances are costumed and set authentically to the period and style she is interpreting. She is not only a dancer but a leading actress as well, telling the stories of her dances in song and pantomime. Each fall and spring for several years she has appeared with ner ensemble as guest artist with the Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera house. Among her dance-dramas are ballets which she has created dur ing the recent seasons she has spent in New York. These include “Pictures of Goya,” presented a year ago at the Metropolitan; “El Amor Brujo,” a gypsy dance drama to the music of Manuel de Falla; and “El Cafe de Chinitas.” Re cently she staged the dances for “Carmen” at the national opera in Mexico City. The leading exponent in America of the heel-tapping, castanet-click ing style of dancing, Argentinita will appear in Eugene on her sixth coast-to-coast tour of the United States, in a program open to mem bers of the Eugene concert series, and to all ASUO card holders. An expanded program of indus trial nursing education through which graduate nurses may get the requirements of the Bachelor of Science degree is offered this fall by the School of Educatnon, New York University. Minehart’s life as a soldier began j when he received his orders with the ROTC in April, 1043. He was sent to Fort Lewis, and from there, went to camps in Kentucky, on Lake Erie, and then Texas.
