Ducks Wolf Navycats
In 69-39 Saturday Scrap
Whipping across the “Cats” home floor Saturday to toss a
score of 69 to 39 the Duck basketball fiends downed the Wil
lamette Navycats for the second time in as many nights by
large margins. Friday night’s 55-to-35 victory was played in
the Igloo. Saturday the Webfoots took an early lead and
boasted a margin of 31 to 19 by half time.
Four of the Ducks did all the
scoring for the Oregon five during
the first half of the game and the
green-and-yellow easily pressed
their advantage. In the second
frame everyone scored for Oregon
and it seemed as if the game would
* b a complete rout, but the score
might have been much closer had
the navy team been able to make
their lay-in shots.
Seven times during the last few
minutes of play, the Willamette
five hounded the ball from the
Oregonians, and seven straight
times the “Cats” missed lay-in
shots. Two of these baskets were
missed by Tate and the others by
Bob Zeller.
For a time the Navycats came
close to overtaking the Ducks but
crucial shots by the Eugene team
averted this danji^r. The second
half of the game was closer than
the first stanza as the Ducks out- I
scored the home team by only eight
points during this portion, but even
so the Ducks’ strategic marksman
ship and superior play told the dif
ference between a close and uneven
affair.
High scorer for the night was
Boh Hamilton of the University
hoopsters who shot 16 points to
out-cout his teammate, Dick Wil
kins, 14 points.
