If Oregon coeds are wondering
why they didn’t have a date last
Saturday, they can blame it on
the many house dances \Vhich ab
sorbed most of the eligible men on
the campus.
As a group of ‘'potential FBI
womeii” wandered from house to
house dolefully peeping in windows
to see what the men in their life
were up to, they saw several orig
inal ideas in thaiwfey'of house
dance themes.

'Bonds Away' Pics Due
All war bonds candidates
should submit their 4 by 6 pic
tures to Evelyn Stephens at the
Alpha Delta Pi house rather
than to Bob Moran, as formerly
announced. These pictures are
due November 15.
•sleuths stopped next at the Alpha
Gamma Delta’s traditional formal,
“Castle Dance.” In the living room
were thrones occupied by Mrs.
H. J. Boyd, the housemother, as
queen, and the pledges as prin
cesses. The'ccnlrt of lords and la
dies was composed of the patrons
and patronesses.
Alpha Delta Pi
The Alpha Delta Pis preferred
a “Raze Hay” barn dance. After
climbing the hay stack barrier at
the ddor, the weary wanderers
dropped to the floor amidst corn
stalks. Enjoying the portraits of
Ozark mountain people on the
walls, the detectives were startled
to hear the clock strike 11.
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Back down the row to the Kappa
Kappa Gamma house, the amateur
Sherlock Holmes and Watson found
a “Gay Nineties” music hall, com
plete with dance floor, and pholo
tintype room, in which pictures of
that era were displayed. Snaps
taken of different individuals with
courage enough to supplant the
head of the sketched figures, with
their own, provided much amuse
ment.

With curfew about to sound only
enough time remained for a quick
peek through the closed curtains of
the Pi Phi house at their “Jama
Jump,” pajama party. A buffet
supper had been served around che
fireplaces, and the decorations
connoted a sleepy atmosphere.

be blue as a result of dust from

light.

Fast Games
In Wednesday’s volleyball game,
the Gamma Phi Betas decisively
beat their opponents, the Kappa
Kappa Gamma team, by a final
score of 60 to 15, the Pi Phi team
defeated the Alpha Chis, 37 to 33,
and the Alpha Gamma Deltas
emerged victorious over the Alpha.
Xi Deltas, 39 to 20.
In the first half the Gamma Phis
were leading the Kappas and main
tained their lead throughout the
entire game, with their captain,
Janet Thompson, Norma Wilder,
and Jo Anne Knight doing a con
sistent job of expert serving. The
combination of Sally Spiess, Janet
Thompson, and Jeanne Robinson as
spikers at the net rolled up the
score for the Kappas. Acting cap
tain for the Kappas was Mary
Fairchild.
The Pi Phis, captained by Mary
Lou Welch, and the Alpha Chis,
headed by Margery Slayter, were
tied, 17 to- 17, at the end of the
first half, but the serving of Peggy
Finnell chalked up the winning
points for the Pi Phis.
At the end of the- first half, -the
Alpha Gamma Deltas, headed by
Margaret Hughes, were leading the
Alpha Xi Deltas, captained by
Edith Wilson, 18 to 11, and stayed
in the lead to make the final score
of 39 to 20.
In Tuesday’s game the three vic
torious teams were Alpha Delta Pi
over Alpha hall, 45 to 24, Chi Ome
ga against Omega hall, 33 to 29,
and the Sigma Kappas over Delta
Gammas. The closest of the three
games was between the Sigma
Kappas and the Delta Gammas,
and an extra five minutes of play
was required to decide the winner,
because when time was called the
teams were tied. The captain of
the victorious Sigma Kappa team
was Corky McFadden, and for the
winning ADPi team, Barbara Ste
phens.
On the ADPi team, besides Cap
tain Stephens and sister Evelyn,
Bobby Edwards, Betty Davis, and
Charlotte Wicke played and served
to bring the team home the win
ners. For the Chi Omegas Marilyn
Holden and Dorothy Shepperd
scored although Captain Lois
Blankenship, Gayl Barber, and
Ethyl De Nite of Omega hall kept
up their team’s scoring average.
