Yes, his name is Del Smith—this promising basketball player who will represent the University during the 1944-45 season. This tall, good-looking fellow comes from Rainier, Oregon, where he played basketball, and he tells us, by the way, that basketball there was good. Del is six feet, two and a half inches tall, and weighs one hundred and ninety pounds. A freshman, Del believes that the Ducks will have a good team this year, and that it is destined to make a good record. Del also iayealed that he prefers red-head ed girls. Dick Williams The UO team this year seems likely to establish a name as a tall and fast team, and our latest pros pect, Dick Williams, is no excep tion. Dick is six feet, two inches and after a few practice sessions, has proven that he is no slowpoke on the floor. Last year, while attend ing Lincoln high school in Portland, Dick was selected on the all city team, a distinction coveted by ail Portland prep players. Because of the good material at the University this year, Dick also thinks the outlook for the team is “plenty good." It has been learned also that Dick approves of bru nettes. We can't say much on the Harry James “Is You or Is You Ain't” coming to Eugene question ’cause we don’t know much more than anyone else on that subject, or any other subject as far as that’s con cerned. But in regard to the old Duke again, he’s been booked for the Roxy theater on Broadway. The Roxy is Brdwy’s biggest "pro duction’’ theater playing name bands. Ellington’s engagement is a repeat one he made last July. Artie Shaw will play East coast theaters in December, and George Carey will be playing- a good many dances at the University of Oregon this season. Despite many rumors io the contrary, we of this column feel that Carey’s band is really reet. The fella’s ain’t got no library and their repertoire is nothing but jam, but they’ve got a good beat. And now kiddies we’ve gotta go put the Emerald to bed so’s you can all have your Jam For Break fast.
