Instructors Appointed
To University Faculty
With the appointment ot several
new instructors, the UO faculty is
now complete, Acting' President
Orlando J. Hollis announced Wed
nesday.

mance languages, arrived this
week to teach several Spanish
classes. Mr. Lopez comes from the
University of Arizona, but received
his B.A. degree at Ohio Wesleyan
university, and his M.A. degree at

the University of Illinois. He was
born in Granada, Spain, and has
traveled in South America.
For the past several years Mr.
Lopez has been in charge of all
Spanish courses of the extension
division of the University of Ari
zona, and he has done transcrip
tion work for the Carnegie Endow
nien for International Peace. He is
a member of the Modern Language
Association of America and the
American Association of Teachers
of Spanish. He has gained addition
al experience at the University of
Illinois, Duke University, Ohio
Wesleyan university, and Florida
State college for women.
Mr. Hollis announced that Stacey
L. Green, who arrived on the cam
pus this week, and Mrs. Naomi
Kellis are additions to the music
school faculty. Mrs. Kellis, instruc
tor in voice, has had a private
studio in Eugene. She received a
diploma from Arizona State Teach
ers college, and studied voice,
piano, and violin at the Arizona
Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Green, instructor in piano,
last taught at Valparaiso univer
sity, Valparaiso, Indiana from 1930
to 1942. He received his B.A. de
gree in 1922 from Northland col
lege, Ashland, Wisconsin, and was
an instructor there until 1930.
While in Oslo, Norway, in 1922-23,
he studied under Mme. Dagmar
Walle-Hansen. His travels included
a visit to England in 1923. He made
further study at Northwestern
university, and under Howard
Wells in Chicago.
Several appointments in the law
school were also announced by Mr.
Hollis. Leon L. Ray, a special lec
turer in law, is giving the course
in criminal law, while Dr. James
Duff Barnett, professor emeritus
of political science, will teach the
course in constitutional law this
term. Stanley R. Darling, a re
cently appointed special lecturer,
is giving the course in wills.
Mr. Darling received his B.S.
degree from Oregon in 1935; his
J.D. in 1939. Prior to beginning
a private practice in Eugene, his
experience was with the Bonne
ville power administration and the
U. S. department of justice, and
association with a Dallas, Oregon,
lawyer.
Also revealed by Mr. Hollis was
the appointment of Miss Catherine
Jones as instructor in physics!
education. She was a graduate
assistant last year.
Catholic colleges and univer
sities sold more than $12,000,000
worth of war bonds during 1943-44.

up as “the unbeatable three” again
yesterday afternoon on the Hen
dricks hall side to defeat the Sig
ma Kappas, headed by Corky Fad
in, 41 to 18. Besides their captain,
the Sigma Kappas had Elsie Ball
and Elizabeth Howes doing a good
job of serving and playing.
The Chi Omegas defeated Alpha
Omicron Pi under the head of act
ing captain Barbara Radmoor,
with a score of 39 to 22. Captain
Dorothy Shepherd and Marilyn
Holden did a good job for the Chi
Omegas.
The closest game of the day was
between the Alpha Delta Pi team,
captained by Evelyn Stephens, and
Highland house, headed by Doris
Craig. In the first half the ADPis
were ahead 16 to 14 with Bobby
Edwards, Barbara and Evelyn Ste
phens, and Connie Walters chalk
ing up the points. But in the second
half Evelyn Woodward and Cap
tain Craig rolled up a few points
for Highland to even up the score.
From then on it was all a matter
of time to see which team would
come out on top, and Highland
consistently played a good game
to put the team out in front by the
final score of 30 to 25 for High
land.

Will Address Seminar
Dr. Daniel Rosenthal, formerly
of the school of engineering, Brus
sels, will address a meeting of the
chemistry seminar, November .3,
Dr. Pierre Van Rysselberghe, asso
ciate professor of chemistry, has
announced.
Dr. Rosenthal, now a staff mem
ber of the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, will speak on radio
graphic and other methods for the
testing of materials.
UO Graduate Awarded
DFC for Pacific Action
Lt. Robert Hendershott, ’43, has
been awarded the distinguished fly
ing cross for action in the western
Pacific in which, as pilot of an
observation plane, he battled three
Japanese Zeroes over Iwo Jima
island.
Now stationed at the Pasco
naval air station, Lt. Hendershott
was presented with the D.F.C. at a
special ceremony.
The original booby trap was
mistletoe.
Dr. Larsell to Address
Faculty and Students
Dr. Olof Larsell, professor of
anatomy. University of Oregon
Medical school, and dean of the
graduate division, will deliver a
lecture on “Development of the
Cochlea in Relation to the Incep
tion of Hearing," at S:15 p.m. Mon
day, November 6, in Room 10.>,

Preceding the lecture, a business
meeting of the University chaptei
of Sigma Xi will be held at 7:30
p.m. in 103 McClure hall.
