Coed oj the 'Week . . . Ajbfti Jlowiaitte Ibcutiddatt BUedi AuSia ojj R&ntance By BETTY ROBERTSON On her left hand ADPi Lorraine Davidson wears a beautiful diamond ring, a family heirloom of her fiance, Howard Girdle stone, who graduated from the University in 1942 and is now a marine air corps lieutenant in Pensacola, and below her sorority pin and the gavel attached to it is Howard’s Kappa Sig pin. Yes, she is well be-jeweled. .Lorraine is not only president ot Alpha Delta Pi and a member of Phi Chi Theta, business honorary, but is also president of Pan Hellenic. “It certainly keeps me busy,” she declared. During her freshman year she was co-chair *n of the Frosh Glee and a mem ber of the student union commit tee. And she is very proud that she was a member of the first War Board created at Oregon. Blonde, green-eyed Lorraine is 5 feet, 6 % inches tall and 21 years old. She was born in Portland, and has always lived in Portland. “It's about time I get out of that city,” she laughed. "I used to like it there very much, but it has changed too much in the last few years.” Grant Grad While attending Ulysses S. Grant high school, she took her place on inany outside committees and did script-writing for stage shows. “Please don’t make that sound im portant,” she begged, “because it really wasn't.” In 1936 the Davidsons took an automobile trip (“Father insists that’s the only way to see things”) to the East, spending a good deal The STYLE The LOOK Get your hat at The BONNET NOOK Steven Crane in "Cry of the Were-Wolf" — and — "Soul of a Monster" of time in Pennsylvania! Ohio, and Minnesota. Once they went to Mexico, too. Canada? “Oh, yes,’’ Lorraine smiled. "Last spring there was a sorority convention in Vic toria, B.C., so another girl from the house and I attended. We flew to Seattle, and stayed at the Em press hotel. We really had a big time!” Lorraine’s brother, Harry David son, a Theta Chi who graduated in 1941, and of whom she is very proud (pictures of him and her fiance are generously distributed in prominent spots all over her at tractive room), is a master drafts man at Boeing in Seattle, where he designs and sells for the company. Mermaid During her spare time, -which is quite limited at Oregon, Lorraine likes to swim, a sport in which she c-xcells. She also enjoys skiing, tennis, and bridge. A senior in business administra tion, she is planning to enter some kind of business after graduation, preferably personnel work. “I am definitely not going to do steno graphic work,” she declared. “I want something which combines office work and meeting people.” Part of last summer and the entire summer before that, she was actually doing this sort of thing in the downtown personnel office of Kaiser shipyards in Portland. In describing this experience, she laughed and said, “It was really a broad education. We saw everyone from New York professors to poor white men who couldn’t write their own names.” Cupid Lorraine spent the other half of last summer marrying off her sorority sisters. “Between Floss Hamilton and Janet Ross, I was really busy,” she commented. “Floss ! is down in San Francisco now, but she’s expecting her husband to go overseas soon, so after graduation I’m planning to live in ’Frisco with her and work there. I think it will be exciting. If that doesn’t worfy out for some reason, I’d like to be connected with the proposed plas tic industry in the northwest.” Her own marriage plans ? “Oh, we’ll wait until after the war,” Lorraine said nonchalantly, then added, “although I’m not too sure.” There’s always room for doubt! Camel’s hair brushes are not made from the hair of camels. Brushes of so-called camel’s hair are really made from the tails of squirrels. Strange to say, the Fourth of July is not a legal national holiday. At least no act was passed making it one. It is an unwritten legal I holiday, so to speak.
