mothers in Alumni hall, Gerlinger,
Wednesday, October 18, from 3 to
5 p.m.

come new members. A talk on the
Oregon mothers scholarships and
student loan fund will be given by
Dean Karl W. Onthank.

rud, vice-president; and Mrs. M. N.
Pengra, treasurer. Mrs. William
Tugman and Mrs. V. H. Davis are

tee, Mrs. K. L. Carlisle and Mrs.

pitality committee. Scholarship
parties fund committee will be di
rected by Mrs. George Hopkins and
the rummage sale will be directed
by Mrs. C. L. Huffaker. In charge
of the December luncheon are Mrs.

Marine, Former Duck,
Returns to States
After 22 months with a marine
battalion overseas, Sgt. Russell
Combest, 27, a former University
student, is back in the United
States.
A week after Pearl Harbor Ser
geant Combest enlisted in the ma
rine corps. He is now in San Diego
at the marine reclassification anti
reassignment center.
Miss Tyler Named
Mortar Board Adviser
Dr. Leona Tyler, assistant pro
fessor of psychology, has been
selected a stlie new adviser for
Mortar Board, senior women's hon
orary, Gerd Hansen, president, an
nounced Tuesday.
At the same time it was revealed
that the Mortar Board Hallowe'en
party originally scheduled for Octo
ber 27 had been cancelled because
of conflicting dates.
CAMPUS CALENDAR
Amphibian tryouts will be held
today at 4 at the Gerlinger pool.
All interested students are asked
to attend.
Tryouts for parts in the new
Guild hall production will be held
today at 7:30 in Chapman hall.
An all freshman social get to
gether will be held today at 4 at
Westminster house. Refreshments
and dancing. All freshmen urged to
attend.
There will be a Kwama meeting
today at 4:30 in the Alpha Phi
house. No uniforms are to be worn.
Geology Head to Speak
Before Town Hall Group
Warren D. Smith, head of the
geology department, will speak on
his experiences in Washington,
D.C., this summer at the meeting
of the Little Town Hall group at
the First Congregational churcn,
October 18, at 8.
“Mr. Smith Went to Washing
ton’’ is the subject of the talk and
all members of the discussion
group and students interested are
promised an “enjoyable meeting"
by the Town Hall committee.
