Bev Brunton Reveals
Dual Role to Reporter
K Bev Brunton, Sabina in “The Skin of Our Teeth,” returned
from the telephone, blue eyes sparkling, to hand the Emerald
a scoop. Miss Brunton will compete for the title of Miss Lane
County as the candidate of the Eugene Junior Chamber of
Commerce.

junior year. She studied drama
under Ethel Chase Christie in Eu
gene and it was Mrs. Christie wiio
suggested that she continue in the
field.
Going through her scrap book,
Bev pointed out highlights in her
life. “My junior year I won a schol
arship to summer session at North
western university, Illinois, and
played the lead in “Ladies in Re
tirement.” Winning another schol
arship her senior year, this time to
the Plymouth Drama festival in
Massachusetts, Bev postponed the
trip until the following year to go
with Mrs. Christie to Handford,
Washington, for Dupont DeNem
ours. There she was Mrs. Christie's
assistant in dramatics. From Han
ford she went to Massachusetts in
June.

a girl could hope to play in con
temporary drama, she explained.
Bev thinks Mr. Robinson is one of
the best directors she has ever
worked for.
After completing two years at
the University, Bev plans to finish
at the Goodman Theater in Chi
cago.

as marine corps second lieutenants
at Camp Lejuene, N. C., and arc
now undergoing advanced training.

and track varsity letter, Lieuten
ant Ray’s home is at Baker. Lieu
tenant Potts, McMinnville, was a
member of Skull and Dagger and
Theta Chi fraternity. He took part
in basketball, football, and track
and was intramural sports direc
tor. A member of Sigma Alpha
Epsilon fraternity, Lieutenant Pat
terson's horns is at Payette, Idaho.

will present the first “Faculty
Journal” at 8:15. This part of the
program is sponsored by the school
of journalism.
George Hopkins, professor of
piano, will present a radio program
on the faculty series Thursday
evening at 7:30. Mr. Hopkins will
preview his forthcoming recital by
playing Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 31,
No. 1.

John Warren Carkin, who at
tended the University, was wound
ed in the Normandy invasion and
has been in an English hospital
for about two months.
In a letter to Dean Karl W. On
thank, Carkin’s father, John H.
Catkin, Salem, Ore., reported that
John is now “up and around.” The
infantryman was wounded in the
arm by shrapnel.
Hugh G. Simpson, a former Uni
versity student, is now a second
lieutenant in the army air forces,
following a bombardier training
course at Carlsbad, N.M.
Lieut. Simpson's home is in Eu
gene and his wife, the former Mary
Lou Robertson, now makes her
home here. His parents, Mr. and
Mrs. D. W. Rumford, also live here.
