Tally Rises
Student enrollment has increased
-v by eight per cent over last year,
according to figures released by
the registrar’s office this week. A
total of 1,770 have registered, in

senior classes are 115 and 156, re

^special and auditor classes and 54

has the greatest number of stu
dents, with a total of 960.
Saturday noon, October 7, is the

at the Theta’s pink palace was the
engagement or' Alice Lockhart to
Fhi Kappa Tau Phil Vander. Alpha
Gam Louise Fletcher is proudly
displaying a diamond from fiance
Dick Landis.
Everyone please note the bars
that Tri-Delt Pat Tague is sport
ing from fiance Dick Storm—bet
ter watch that twosome for further
developments. ADPi Marty Beard
is anticipating a weekend visit
from her fiancee—it looked sort of
like Portland, particularly Grant
high, had moved into town last
weekend—to see Pi Phi pledges Jo
Anne Bush and Helen Hicks.
The marines really took over
this summer as far as ADPi Dottie
Maddox was concerned. Reports
have it that Chi O Margery Skor
cahl and Raynor Morrison are defi
nitely on the beam again. Two
mighty nappy girls are Kappas
Bobbie Pearson and Nancy Bak
er—Bill Healy and Mac Bosch are
due home in about two weeks, un
less the army feels otherwise. It's
a split-up for Gayle Nelson and
Cliff Mallicoat — she’s been seen
everywhere with Bud Roscum -
looks like a big affair in the off
ing—Cliff’s been dating Phi Anna
bel MacArthur lately. . . .
What’s this about the big birth
day party that the Thetas had at
the hotel this weekend? “We three
make a wonderful couple” — as
sung by Terry Carroll, Ron Peter
son, and Gamma Phi Natalie
Brown—seems that there was a
little mixup this weekend — how
about that? That Nancy Schmeer
Bill Elder steady deal is set for
another year. . . . Theta Polly
Chafe’s one-and-only, Johnny Ivro
der, will be on the campus winter
term—ditto brother Jim lvroder.
Keith Murphy, last term yell lead
er, now in the merchant marine,
will probably return winter term,
much to the joy of Kappa fiancee,
Marilyn Pollard.
Tri-Delt Phil Lehman is still in
the same triangle—which is it go
ing to be, air corps or the navy?
We’d like to know. Eloise Mill
hausen is sporting the sword and
shield of Phi Delt Don Bridenstein
these days. Guess Phi pledge Bar
bara Hessemer was kept mighty
busy with her two navy men this
weekend. Gamma Phi Anita Fer
nandez had two visitors the other
day — namely, Loren Wood and
Kenny Roberts. Bob Davis had
been occupying a lot of Kappa
pledge Marilyn Williams’ time late
ly, it seems.
Alpha Phis are wondering who
the anonymous character is who
calls up regularly and asks for the
Alice from California. Alysone
Hales, Kappa house prexy, has been
dividing her attention between two
mysterious men lately, but it ap
pears that she is most fascinated
by the one named Elmer at pres
ent. On the subject of mysteries,
it is promised that something is
going to break up Tri-Delt way
’most any day now.
A weekend visitor who came
down to see ADPi Lorraine David
son was OSC Phi Delt Gordon Ek
strom, just returned from three
years in the South Seats- The Sig
ma Chi pin that Chi O pledge Sally
Anne Luke has been wearing, is
from “Babe” Groshong — Theta
pledge Gloria Grenfell is sporting
Phi Psi brass from Bill Sagan—
Tri Delt Dodie Frideger is all agog
these days over the anticipated
furlough of Don “Fat Man" Rueck
er—that letter that Dodie received
last week from Mario Beteta, the
Mexican general’s son, was really
a masterpiece of La tin- American
romance. . . .
The Beta badge on Theta pledge
Nancy Rivenburgh belongs to
George Walker. Hal White has
been escorting Tri-Delt pledge Jo
anne Merwin pretty steadily ■
and that goes for Bill O'Hearn and
Gamma Phi pledge JoAnne Preble
—Chi O Pat Smith is now the
proud possessor of Paul Basche's
Sigma Chi cross Jack McCracken
was on the campus last weekend
to see Robbie Bowman — Wally
Johnson, once more on the eligible
list, has gone overboard for Kap
pa's Mary Fairchild—wonder if Phi
pledge Sue Schoenfeldt accepted
the charges on that collect call
from San Diego?
That impromptu date between
Treva Jane Parson and Kenny
Geiger might lead to something—
Louise Goodwin is expecting a visit
soon from Beta, now second lieu
tenant, Ray Farmer. Looks like
Ray “Frankenstein” Carter is num
ber one on Betty Green’s list at the
present writing—wonder if Donnie
Boylan and Dick Dahlstrom are
going to make it a steady two
some ?
The Tri-Delt house was pleasant
ly surprised at the announcement
of Jane Corkran’s betrothal to Lee
Baugus of Camp Adair, the cul
mination of a very unusual ro
mance—seems that Jane's mother
met Lee on the train, liked him,
and as a further friendly gesture,
