Parents Urged To Cooperate “We must make every effort to carry on all campus traditions so that, when those students who are absent from the University in the service of our country return, they will find the normalacy which they will so deeply need,” stated Mrs. H. A. Busterud, president of the Oregon Mothers’ association, in her message to parents of University students in the Oregon News for Oregon Mothers. The annual trek to the campus of parents will take place this year during Mothers’ Weekend and this is one of the traditions which Mrs. Busterud urges observance of, de spite increasingly difficult trans portation problems. Haight street. Parents ar riving in Eugene by train will be met at the depot by the hospitality committee and given transporta tion to the campus. It is suggested that students should write the above information to their parents and also emphasize a special invitation to the mothers and dads to arrive in time for the “Sing” to be given Friday night. Roseann Leckie New President of Kwama Roseann Leckie, freshman in liberal arts, was elected president of the incoming Kwama, sopho more women’s honorary, Tuesday evening during the dinner follow ing initiation. Beverly Carroll, freshman in lib eral arts, was chosen vice-presi dent. The new secretary is Barbara Pearson, newly-elected sophomore class president, and Beatrice King, also in liberal arts, was chosen streasurer. Initiation ceremony was held at the Gamma Phi Beta house and the gioup went to the Del Rey for dinner. CAMPUS CALENDAR The frosh commission will meet at 4 p.m. at the YW bungalow Thursday. .Juniors will hold a class meet ing Friday night after the rally, announced Paul Lum. A general directorate meeting is to be held Tuesday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the dean of women’s of fice for the heads of all the Mo thers’ Weekend committees and the following Junior Weekend chairmen: general co-chairmen, chairmen of Junior Prom, All-Cam pus Sing, terrace dance, campus picnic, Sunlight Serenade, public ity, and finance. All members of Phi Beta are asked to be present tonight at 6:30 for a candle lighting service in the Alumni room of Gerlinger hall. Members of Phi Chi Theta will hold an important meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday in the home eco nomics room. New members to be initiated are Vivian Anderson and Yvonne Umphlette, both juniors. Speaker of the evening is R. L. Mangold, of the United Air Lines, who will discuss the problems of postwar aviation. The twenty-second student to be selected as outstanding freshman, Miss Utz will have her name en graved on a plaque given to the University of Oregon by the Ore gon Mutual Life Insurance com pany in 1922. The company asked that the outstanding freshman be rewarded by having his name placed on the plaque. Appointments Made By Red Cross" Board Among appointments made at the Tuesday meeting of the Red Cross board, Carol Wicke, chair man, announced the following com mittee heads: Helen Diersh, nurses’ aide; Virginia Tompkins, home nursing; Mary Landry, scrapbook; Florence Hintzen, nutrition. All nurses’ aides are requested to begin compiling the hours they have worked this term and turn the results in to the chairman. Miss Wicke urged all students who are interested in working in any of the various Red Cross ac tivities next year to call her at 1309 or Gloria Cartozian at 2900 and give their name and phone number. Todays’ Girls’ Softball Games Announced Softball games scheduled 'for to day are: Chi Omega vs. Orides and Lombardy lodge vs. Rebec-Hilyard. Tennis matches are: Gamma Phi Beta vs. Alpha Delta Pi; Hillcrest lodge vs. Hawthorne lodge; Delta Delta Delta vs. Highland house. In the Tuesday afternoon soft ball intramurals, Hillcrest lodge eked out a win over Alpha Omi cron Pi, 3 to 2 and Alpha Delta Pi walked all over Gamma Phi Beta to the tune of 14 to 1. Wednesday afternoon Sigma Kappa beat Birch lodge 9 to 3, Orides won a close game from Hawthorne lodge 8 to 6, and Delta Delta Delta defaulted to Highland house. In the tennis matches on Tues day, Delta Delta Delta beat Sigma Kappa 5 to 0. Barney Shaw Injured In Fall From Ladder Barney Shaw, one of the first Emerald columnists and now an employee of the University at the press, fell off a ladder while at home Tuesday and hurt his foot. It is not known yet whether he received a fracture or not but the accident will keep him off the job for a few days. Junior Women to Fete (Continued from page 1) reported by Mrs. Elizabeth F. BONDS Miss Mary J. Wick Enlists in Marines Mary Jane Wick, sophomore in liberal arts, enlisted in the marine corps women’s reserve recently and was placed on an inactive status awaiting call to active duty some time in June, local marine corps headquarters announced Wednesday. Miss Wick will receive six weeks basic training at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina and while there will be given a series of classifica tion tests and interviews. The results of these examina tions will aid in determining the field in which she will specialize at the end of the basic training per iod. She will then be sent to a specialists training school or will be stationed at some marine corps base in continental United States. Girls to Clean Yard The outside of the YWCA will be cleaned Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for Junior Week end. It has been requested that two or three members of each house be there to help in the proceedings. Newman*Club Picnic Planned for April 30 v Announcement was made Mon day by Joe Mikolavich, chairman of the Newman club’s annual pic nic, that it will be held Sunday, April 30. Swimmers Delight has been chosen as the location for this afternoon of picnicing. Plenty of food and fun has been planned for all the Catholic stu dents, military and civilian, who attend. The group will meet at the YWCA house at 2:15 p.m. Sunday and proceed from there in what cars are available.
