Past Week Of Femme Sports Featured By Varied Activity The climax of the basketball season for the girls is almost here, and all of the teams are playing- more and more exciting and intense games as they head for the semi-finals. Headed in the direction of the semi-finals verv definitely are the ADPis whom we pick as the team of the week. As vet thev are undefeated in their leaerue. The ADPis have the advantnp-e nf height in their forward line up as well as speed and deceptive ball handling. The trio in the line up forward are Barbara and Evelyn Stephens, and Janet “Pee Wee’’ Ross. Janet Ross has exceptional speed and ability handling the ball and sinking baskets from all over court. Evelyn Stephens keeps any guard on her toes with her de ceptive playing under the basket and her ability to make shots from any position. Another good forward for the ADPis is Bobbie Edwards who is a quick and tricky ball handler. The guarding power of the ADFis is exceptional. They are headed by Betty Lee Humphreys, Barbara Bently, and Carmen Green. This trio of guards is hard to beat on any team. They are excellent ball handlers and very accurate in every play. On an equal par with the first string guards are three of the subs, Charollet Wicki, Flor JSte Hamilton, and Doris Trask. The first meet of the year for the swimming team is now over, and it was as exciting and interesting as any swimming meet could be. Every spectator at the meet was en tertained to the best degree by the excellent swimming put on by the various girls’ ilving organizations. The Alpha Delta Pis won the meet with a total of 4G points to their nearest competitor’s 26 points. Eva Anderson who swam for the Lame Ducks was their outstanding swimmer. She was at her best while swimming freestyle. Another good free style swimmer was ADPi Doris Tjsa.sk who won the 40 yard free style swim and the 40 yard back stroke. Doris also won the form swimming and she proved herself to be an excellent all around swim mer. Theta Polly Gordon brought the score up for her house with her excellent backstroke swimming. The next swimming meet is Wed nesday, February 9, and it prom ises to be more exciting than the last. The meet is free and open to the public. To see an exciting team and individual competition in sports, everyone should go to the next swimming meet in Gerlinger. Following is the results of last tvWk-'s basketball play. Oregon and Washington State are tied for third, and Oregon State is a distance behind with no chance of leaving the cellar soon because they play their next series against the Huskies in Seattle. in the Supreme Soviet. The new provinces were even granted the right to secede. The catch came in the fact that only communists could be elected to office. We have never heard of an opposition newspaper becoming successful in the Soviet nation. We remember the fate of the millions of people who have dared to differ with Comrade Stalin. They are at present in the ground or enjoying the blessings of the “most demo cratic constitution in the world’’ in the prison camps of Siberia. A written constitution, therefore, is obviously no guarantee of civil rights. The British, for example, do not even possess a written consti tution, yet the British citizen is free to .vote for whomever he chooses or to vilify Mr. Churchill. We think that this decentraliza tion of the Soviet Union is the Rus sian answer to all the allied plans for international government after the war. The Russians have abandoned the dualism of the Comintern and the Soviet state for a more siibtle program of action. They undoubted ly propose to set up puppet repub lics in Poland, Germany, Rumania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and other countries of Europe. These puppet states would become part of the Soviet Union. Russia, in other words, has cast out communism for Russian nationalism. The Russians are realistic—they admire toughness. This Molotov plan is a trial balloon, sent up in order to test the reaction of the West. The Russian government heads must be having a good laugh at the amazement portrayed by much of our press.
