during fall term as compared to
the record of 8000 a term last
year.
All workers must bring, not
wear over other clothes, their
white cotton dresses or cotton
blouses and skirts. This is a na
tional ruling and will be strictly
enforced, Miss Wicke stated. Fa
cilities for keeping the girls’
clothes will be provided. The cam
pus War board will provide uni
forms for the instructors but un
til these are ready the instructors
will also wear white cotton. All
instructors must wear the white
veil, earned with 18 hours of work.
The present number of instruct
ors is not sufficient and Miss
Wicke wishes all girls interested
in taking the instructor’s course
to notify her. This term each
house will be asked to be repre
sented by at least two instructors
to add to the present total of ten
girls who include: Marty Beard,
Leslie Brockelbank, Barbara Mc
Clung, Pat Ferguson, Mary Min
or, Mary Jane Wick, Dorothy

(Continued from page three)
teer nurses’ aides comes word that
they are really busy—each giving
12 hours of free service per week
to the local hospitals, besides their
regular school studies and activ
ities. The new class of aides, start
ed this term, includes 20 girls,
who are topped by a total of 39
graduates from last term.
All girls interested in being
campfire counselors at Camp
Namanu this summer can be in
terviewed Wednesday in the dean
of women’s office, when Marian
beth Wolfinden, campfire execu
tive of the Portland area and
Marge Dibble, former AWS presi
dent, will be on the campus for
that purpose. They report that
girls are definitely needed this
summer for this type of work,
especialy since it is a form of
war work at the present time. It
also provides special opportunity
for leadership.

This WAVE —and hundreds like her —helps keep ’em flying. She’s
&n important cog in the machinery which makes Navy fliers. As a Link
Trainer Instructor, her job is to give directions to fliers, seated in cockpits
of stationary training planes. The instrument in front of her, called a
“crab,” records how well the pilot carries out those directions. As a result
of this kind of training, hazards are greatly reduced for pilots when they
go aloft. The inset shows a rating badge worn by Link Trainer Instruct
ors, the “T” meaning teacher. A new booklet about the WAVEa is avail
able at Navy Recruiting Offices.

to pool ideas and to make further
plans.
The “Love and Marriage” series
was begun by a Westminister
group more than 15 years ago,
and until last year was an annual
traditon during winter term. For
awhile different authorities on the
psychological, biological, and re
ligious aspects visited the differ
ent living organizations and pre
sented the subject formally. Later
the idea evolved into round table
discussions in each group. If the
plan is carried out this year, it will
probably be in the form of inform
al firesides, according to the com
mittee.
