Casaba Schedules Announced Conference Slate Contains Full 16 Games Despite War Basketball will carry on at Oregon in spite of the war, Coach ’’ Hobson declared as he disclosed the Northern Division conference, schedule in its revised form Monday, and also the list of pre-conference tilts. Oregon will play a full sixteen games as in former years, with Idaho, Washington, Washington State, and Oregon State providing ■ four games each. Of these, half will be at home and half on the road. With a strong pre-season schedule lined up, Hobson hopes to take cagcrs into the tougher competition with considerable experience under their belts. “We’ve been scrimmaging pretty heavily," declared Hobson. “And the boys are developing into a fairly smooth-working combination. Most of them are quite green, but things are coming along all right, and on the whole it’s not so bad—not so bad at all.” Little Disclosed Which may mean anything. Hobson had nothing to say either in approval or disapproval of the schedule which, as in other years, in cludes a four-games-in-five'-nights invasion of the Inland Empire. Several topnotch indepen dent players from Portland hoop circles will also bolster the line up. Among these will be Bob Rankin, 6-foot 2-inch forward who starred last year for Byer ly’s Sporting Goods, and Eldon* Gregg, a 6-foot, 1-incher. “They're all taller than my boys,'' Hobson complained. “What's happened to all the local tall timber, anyway?" The Fee game will start at 8 p.m.. as will all the other non confei-ence tilts. Prospect Good For Hoopsters According to Coach Howard Hobson, Oregon's basketball team looks fairly good after one month of 'daily practice. The team lacks only experience and size. There are fifteen on the squad now, and only three of these have had previous experience at Ore gon although they were not var sity or squad men. Several trans fers who played at other colleges are on the squad and the remain der are freshmen. From Last Year Those returning are Bob Cavi ness from the freshman squad; Bob Hamilton who also played on the freshman team; and Ed gar Allen. Promising transfers are: George Bray, 6-foot 6-inch cen teh, from Southern Oregon Col lege of Education; Dick Holmes, 6-foot 2-inch candidate from Menlo junior college; Marion Huff, regular forward last year at Eastern Oregon college of edu cation; Lowell Welch, guard from Stockton junior college, Califor nia; Dick Stonebreaker fiom the freshman squad of Oregon State; and Barney Koch, who placed varsity baseball last spring but who is going out for basketball for the first time. Freshman men showing the most promise at present are: Luke Baccelleri from Roosevelt high and leading scorer of Port lands’ prep basketball league; Bill Phillips, also from Roosevelt's champ team; and Norman Hen wood from Grant. Others are: Kenneth Hays, 6-foot 7-inch cen ter prospect from Waitsburg, Washington; Lee Wimberly from Eleanor Powell Red Skelton "I DOOD IT' "Dr. Gillespie's Criminal Case’' Lionel Barrvmore i——11111111111 Hi ..mm.....min in i hi BOB VVKKN . . . . . .
