State Plans Dr. Donald M. Erb, president of the University; Nancy Ames, Color Schemes Intrigue (Continued from page one) room-mates informed the strang er in hushed tones. “We keep her in the basement.” Gibbering only slightly, the newcomer tottered on to the Al pha Phi hideout. Before she could make her escape she had been all but bowled over by one room which contained pale green walls, solid scarlet rugs, and red and white polka-dotted couch covers. Two or three other rooms had been made over in varying com binations of pink, blue, and green. Character Colors Although our poor friend was by now glancing about for a store in which to buy some doll cutout books and a pair of scissors, she was unable to tear herself free from her insidious obsession for color before she had cast her eyes over the Sigma Kappa “Scotch plaid room,” the Pi Phis’ bright red bureau and red, white, and blue experiments, and the com binations obtained by the Gam ma Phi Betas, who exhibited rooms done in light and dark yel low, blue and pink, and white and blue. Upon being informed that near ly every women’s house on the campus contained new and orig inal color schemes produced and applied by the girls themselves, the stranger to the UO threw up her hands and emitted a blood curdling scream. Before her mind lapsed completely, however, she learned that the blindfolded girls had merely been giving their eyes a rest and the cotton was being used as ear stuffing by others, in order to obtain relief from the loudness of their decorations. And the hammer horseplay? Why, it was the only way in which that particular set of girls could gain a little sleep!
